SoCalGas' Energy Efficiency Initiatives Result in Over $95 Million in Savings for Customers in 2024

SoCalGas Delivers Significant Savings for Customers in 2024

In a remarkable effort toward energy sustainability, Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) announced that its energy efficiency programs facilitated a whopping savings of more than $95 million for customers in 2024. This substantial savings underscores the company's ongoing commitment to aiding households and businesses in optimizing their energy use while contributing positively to the environment.

Customers collectively saved over 50 million net therms, which translates to enough energy to meet the natural gas needs of nearly 125,000 homes for an entire year. Remarkably, this initiative helped in reducing more than 260,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, equating to the annual emissions from over 56,000 cars off the roads.

"Our energy efficiency initiatives not only stimulate significant savings for consumers but also foster a greener environment," stated Andy Carrasco, SoCalGas' vice president of communications and regional stakeholder engagement. "Every therm saved embodies a family benefiting from reduced heating costs, a small business improving operational efficiency, or a school being able to allocate funds towards better educational resources instead of high energy expenses."

To further enhance accessibility for energy upgrades, SoCalGas expanded its financing options through the Marketplace and GoGreen programs. These expansions encouraged almost $67 million in investments toward facility and appliance upgrades for homes and small businesses. Alongside contributing to energy conservation, these programs also prioritized water conservation, through the installation of high-efficiency water devices. These implementations saved over a billion gallons of water in 2024 alone and are projected to save a total of 11 billion gallons over their lifetime.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo expressed gratitude towards SoCalGas for being a vital community ally, noting, "Helping families and small businesses save energy and money is the kind of partnership that uplifts neighborhoods and builds a stronger, more sustainable community for everyone."

Currently, SoCalGas operates more than 70 energy efficiency programs, striving to offer incentives and services targeting residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Through various methods such as direct installations, property assessments, and outreach efforts, the company successfully engaged over 2 million customers in 2024 alone. Educational endeavors reached upwards of 30,000 students, fostering a culture of energy awareness from a young age.

In recognition of its substantial contributions, SoCalGas was awarded the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award in April 2024 for the second consecutive year, with the company being the only utility in California to earn such an honor. Additionally, they garnered the Organizational Leadership Award from The Climate Registry for their unwavering support of California's energy objectives.
