Friends of the California State Fair Launches 2025-26 Scholarship Applications for Students

Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship Program: 2025-26 Applications Now Open

The Friends of the California State Fair has officially opened the application period for its Scholarship Program for the academic year 2025-26. This program serves graduating high school seniors and current college students in California, offering substantial financial support for those pursuing higher education.

Scholarships can range from $1,000 to $2,500 across twelve different categories, including agriculture, art, business, hospitality event management, and vocational training. The eligibility criteria for each category may differ, but all applicants will be assessed based on their academic performance, community involvement, and their responses to essay questions.

The program also includes a highlight award: the Ironstone Concours Foundation, in partnership with the Friends of the California State Fair, awards a $5,000 scholarship to one notably exceptional candidate each year. The outstanding scholarship in 2024 went to Teagan Wunschel, a fifth-generation rancher who has embarked on a journey to deepen her knowledge in Animal Science and Agricultural Communications at California State University, Chico.

In her scholarship application, Wunschel reflected on her ranching roots, stating, "As a fifth generation rancher, I've been immersed in the world of ranching from an early age. However, it was my decision to venture into showing cattle that truly introduced me to a new level of education. It ignited my passion for breed improvement and advocacy within the beef industry beyond our ranch.” This perspective has inspired her educational aspirations, as she aims to utilize her degree to advocate for California's agriculture, promoting new and sustainable breeding practices.

The deadline for applications for this year's scholarships is set for March 3, 2025. Interested individuals can find further details and access the online application at calexpostatefair.com.

For over 30 years, the Friends of the California State Fair has partnered with the California Agricultural Advisory Council and the State Fair Gala Committee to provide financial assistance to deserving students through this scholarship initiative.
