Child Fund Launches Emergency Support in Response to Humanitarian Crisis in the Middle East

Emergency Support Initiated

In light of a devastating humanitarian crisis emerging in the Middle East, Child Fund has stepped up its efforts to assist those affected, particularly in Lebanon. Following the onset of military actions against Iran and subsequent violence across regional borders, Child Fund has mobilized to provide crucial resources to children and families in need.

Crisis Overview

The situation escalated dramatically at the end of February 2026, with significant military operations targeting Iran, which triggered widespread unrest throughout the region. Lebanon, in particular, has witnessed severe airstrikes and ground assaults affecting civilian life. Reports indicate that over 300 individuals have lost their lives, including an alarming 18,000 children who have been forced to flee their homes in just 48 hours.

Emergency shelters have been established, but only 52 out of 399 designated locations are currently accepting evacuees, leaving countless families struggling to find safe refuge, often spending nights in their vehicles amid chaotic traffic jams and bomb threats. Staff from Child Fund, who have been present on the ground, describe horrendous scenes where screams of grief echo incessantly as families mourn their losses.

On-the-Ground Initiatives

In response to the escalating needs, Child Fund has already begun implementing urgent support efforts in Lebanon. This includes the distribution of essential items such as water, food, hygiene products, and psychological support. With public services severely disrupted, schools closed, and access to vital resources drastically limited, Child Fund’s mission is more critical than ever.

Key Areas of Support:

  • - Water and Sanitation: Emergency kits, including sanitation supplies for babies, menstrual hygiene products, and items for elderly and disabled individuals.
  • - Food Aid: Distribution of ready-to-eat meals, non-perishable food packs, and essential nutritional assistance.
  • - Education and Psychological Care: Prioritizing access to education and mental health support for affected children to ensure their learning can continue amidst the crisis.
  • - Infrastructure Support: Assistance with fuel supplies for water and sewage pumps, enabling basic hygiene and sanitation to be maintained in shelters.

Your Chance to Help

Recognizing the urgent need for support, Child Fund Japan has launched a call for donations and crowdfunding campaigns to expedite the response to this humanitarian crisis. Contributions can be made through the organization’s official website and Yahoo! Net Donation platform.

The situation is dire, and the demand for aid continues to grow with each passing hour. Declining global humanitarian resources further exacerbate the challenges. Innocent children’s lives hang in the balance, threatened by the violence engulfing their futures.

We urge everyone to lend their support. Every contribution counts towards protecting the lives and futures of vulnerable children caught in this spiral of violence and despair.
