Promoting Dental Health in Minato City: The 82nd National Elementary School Toothbrush Tournament



On June 4, in honor of National Tooth Decay Prevention Day, the renowned duo "Yoshida Yamada," serving as tourism ambassadors for Minato City, brought joy and knowledge to the students of Shirokanedai Elementary School. During an event titled the 82nd National Elementary School Toothbrush Tournament, they taught the fifth graders about the importance of dental care through a fun-filled mini-concert, featuring their toothbrush song, "I~Ha~."

Event Highlights


The event took place at Shirokanedai Elementary School, specifically in the school's first-floor hall located at 4-1-12 Shirokane, Minato City. It was specifically designed to support the dental and oral health of elementary students.

Learning Focus


On that day, students utilized DVD materials to learn effective brushing techniques and the proper use of dental floss, emphasizing the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene throughout their lives.

Mini-Concert with Yoshida Yamada


After the educational session, Yoshida Yamada performed their catchy toothbrush song, "I~Ha~," creating an engaging atmosphere where all participants joined in the fun, singing and dancing along. This lively event not only reinforced the message of dental health but also celebrated learning in a community-focused setting.

About Yoshida Yamada


Yoshida Yamada is a male musical duo consisting of Yui Yoshida (Guitar and Vocals) and Yoshitaka Yamada (Vocals). They made their major debut in October 2009 with the song "Gamu Sharaner," gaining notable popularity. The group reached a new level of acclaim when their song, "Hibi," was aired in the NHK program 'Minna no Uta' starting in December 2013. It quickly became known as an emotional anthem, leading to multiple re-broadcasts and extensive sales. Notably, their music video has garnered over 20 million views on YouTube to date.

In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Minato City, they created an image song, "MY HOME TOWN," which showcases the thoughts and hopes of local residents for the Akasaka and Aoyama neighborhoods, further enhancing community ties. In 2019, Yoshida Yamada were appointed Minato Tourism Ambassadors, charged with promoting the area's attractions and engaging visitors.

Moreover, they collaborated with Lion Corporation to create the children's toothbrush song "I~Ha~," reflecting Yoshitaka's creative involvement in design and production.

This annual tournament is organized by the Japan School Dental Association, the Tokyo School Health Association, Lion Corporation, and the Lion Dental Hygiene Research Institute. It aims to raise students' awareness about dental and oral health, aligning with the theme of 'Dental and Oral Health Week.'
