DIA's LIFT Series: Elevating Startups Through Innovation and Pitching Competitions

DIA (Drug Information Association) is set to revolutionize the biopharmaceutical landscape with its innovative LIFT Series at the upcoming Global Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. Running from June 14-18, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between biotech and clintech startups and key industry players.

The LIFT Series, which stands for Linking Innovation, Funding, and Translation, will equip startup founders with vital resources and connections necessary for success. This includes guidance on raising funds, conducting clinical research, navigating regulatory strategies, and entering the market. Attendees can look forward to specialized programming scheduled for June 16-17, focusing on facilitating access to expert knowledge from various disciplines, which is typically hard to access all in one place.

A pivotal segment of the LIFT Series is the Whale Tank, an engaging platform where startups will present their innovative ideas to a panel of judges, comprising influential figures from biopharma and investment firms. Past participants, taking the feedback from judges into account, have successfully refined their business propositions and arranged follow-up meetings with potential investors. The competition is poised to reward winners with various prizes, including a cash award. Startups interested in participating must submit their applications by April 10.

Judging the pitches will be an esteemed panel, including notable figures such as Bob Tepper, Co-Founder and Partner at Third Rock Ventures, Dr. Raju Kucherlapati, a leading geneticist and pivotal contributor to the Human Genome Project, Dr. Ron DePinho, a prominent cancer researcher, and Dr. Peter Marks, Senior Vice President at Lilly and a former FDA director. With representatives from Eli Lilly, AbbVie, and Novartis participating as judges, startups will have a unique opportunity to gain insights from some of the brightest minds in the industry.

"The LIFT Series will facilitate comprehensive discussions, bringing all stakeholders together and granting emerging companies direct access to the expertise, funding, and insights needed to turn their promising innovations into tangible patient benefits," emphasized Marwan Fathallah, DIA's President and CEO.

In addition to the Whale Tank, the LIFT Series will feature workshops focusing on how biopharmaceutical companies make purchasing decisions, decipher the latest partnership models, and understand investors’ perspectives. This will be complemented by pitching workshops and roundtable discussions with industry leaders, cultivating a stimulating environment for learning and networking.

The DIA 2026 meeting promises to offer a revised and enhanced experience compared to past events. It will include daily plenaries, focused sessions on oncology and obesity, and a networking event titled ‘DIA Celebrate,’ alongside the Global Inspire Awards hosted at the National Constitution Center. With over 150 sessions slated across ten content tracks, participants will be immersed in the wealth of knowledge and industry innovations.

The event is expected to draw more than 4,000 professionals. Attendees are encouraged to arrange accommodations as soon as possible, especially given the concurrent FIFA World Cup matches and America 250 celebrations happening in Philadelphia. Early booking is highly recommended to secure the best possible arrangements.

Registration rates will see an increase after May 14, so interested individuals should sign up promptly. Members of the media are invited to request credentials by contacting [email protected].
