Remembering Denny LeVett: A Visionary Founder and Philanthropist

Remembering Denny LeVett: A Legacy of Passion and Philanthropy

The world has lost one of its great visionaries with the passing of Denny LeVett on October 6, 2025, at the age of 87. As the founder of the renowned Cypress Inn and LeVett Properties, he left an indelible mark not just in real estate but also in the lives of countless individuals through his philanthropy and love for animals.

Born as Dennis Albert LeVett in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Denny first discovered his passion for collecting when he was just nine years old. This fascination evolved into a lifelong dedication that culminated in one of the most extensive collections of Colt Patersons, held by various prestigious museums, including the Autry Museum of the American West and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. His passion for history and culture was evident in every part of his life.

In addition to being a dedicated collector, Denny was a groundbreaking real estate developer. His investments in Palo Alto, California—now known as the cradle of Silicon Valley—illustrate his foresight and ambition. He didn't limit himself to commercial real estate; he played a pivotal role in developing boutique inns and residential properties in the picturesque village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. His partnership with the iconic actress Doris Day led to the establishment of the Cypress Inn, a gem that blends elegance and dog-friendliness, reflecting his love for animals.

Denny was not only a successful businessman but also a generous philanthropist. His contributions were widely recognized, especially in animal welfare, which remained a central theme throughout his life. Notable is the establishment of the Dennis A. LeVett Cardiovascular Care Center, launched due to his substantial donations to the Palo Alto Medical Center in 2016. This center serves as a testament to his commitment to healthcare and well-being in his community.

As a family man, Denny was much loved by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an amusing storyteller, a source of wisdom, and an unwavering supporter of his loved ones. His vibrant personality and sharp wit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

In light of his passing, the LeVett family has requested that in place of flowers, donations be made to organizations aligned with Denny’s passions, such as the Doris Day Animal Foundation or the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. In doing so, his legacy of caring and compassion for both animals and people will continue to thrive.

While Denny LeVett may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the stories shared, the lives he touched, and the remarkable contributions he made to the world. He will always be remembered as a pioneer, a philanthropist, and above all, a loving family man. The Cypress Inn and LeVett Properties continue to reflect his vision and ideals, ensuring that his legacy endures for future generations to appreciate. We honor his life and the enduring impact he imparts to all those he encountered.
