Clarios Strengthens Market Position with Acquisition of Maxwell Technologies for Enhanced Energy Solutions

Clarios Acquires Maxwell Technologies

In a strategic move set to bolster its position in the energy storage arena, Clarios, a prominent name in low-voltage energy storage solutions, has successfully acquired Maxwell Technologies. This acquisition, with financial details undisclosed, marks a significant step in Clarios' expansion into high-performance energy solutions.

Maxwell Technologies is renowned for its innovation in supercapacitor cells and modules, which have vital applications in mobility, grid stability, and onsite power management, including data centers. The deal is expected to enhance Clarios’ proficiency in short-duration energy storage solutions that differ markedly from conventional battery systems. Supercapacitors offer almost instantaneous charging and energy release, making them particularly effective in managing peak energy demands and storing surplus energy. Their capacity for over 1 million charge cycles and operational stability across extreme temperatures (ranging from -40°C to +65°C) without the need for maintenance sets them apart in the energy storage landscape.

Clarios views several key benefits stemming from this acquisition:

1. Supply Chain Stability: The integration supports Clarios' efforts to establish a robust supercapacitor supply chain, catering to both U.S. and global original equipment (OE) customers.
2. Strategic Enhancement: This acquisition aligns perfectly with Clarios' ongoing leadership in battery circularity and low-voltage energy solutions.

With a track record of shipping over 85 million supercapacitor cells, Maxwell Technologies’ contributions expand Clarios’ potential to deliver next-generation energy storage options across a variety of sectors, including automotive, industrial automation, and military applications.

Mark Wallace, the CEO of Clarios, emphasized, "Maxwell's supercapacitors are designed to deliver reliable and safe high-power energy storage solutions with a long lifespan. Their integration with our portfolio enhances our capability to serve our automotive industry clients while paving the way for growth in non-automotive markets. We aim to maintain and develop Maxwell’s established relationships within sectors such as data centers and grid applications under our guidance."

Going forward, Maxwell Technologies will operate as an independent division within Clarios, ensuring the continued development of its unique technology and services. This strategic integration not only fortifies Clarios' market presence but also reinforces their commitment to sustainable green energy practices.
