Anaut Inc.'s EUREKA: A Revolutionary Step in Surgical AI
Anaut Inc., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has made headlines by winning two prestigious accolades at the 2025 Tokyo Venture Technology Awards. Their cutting-edge surgical AI system, EUREKA, not only clinched the Grand Prize but also received the Special Award for Women's Empowerment. This remarkable achievement highlights the company's dedication to leveraging artificial intelligence in enhancing surgical procedures and its commitment to promoting gender equality in the workplace.
The EUREKA system comprises two components: the medical device "EUREKA™ α," which has received approval from the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) for its surgical visual support capabilities, and the educational and research-focused "EUREKA™ X." This dual approach not only advances surgical technology but also supports healthcare professionals in their ongoing education and research efforts.
The chairman of the judging panel, Hiroshi Hashimoto, President of the Tokyo Metropolitan University of Technology, praised EUREKA for its unique functionality in clearly distinguishing between organs to be cut and those to be preserved. With certain features already receiving regulatory approval, the system is actively utilized in surgical settings, showcasing its robust implementation capabilities. Hashimoto emphasized that the product not only raises the quality of surgeries but also establishes a safer surgical environment. Additionally, he expressed hope for its potential overseas expansion, particularly in litigation-sensitive markets like the United States.
Anaut boasts a diverse workforce, nearly half of whom are women, excelling in various roles across the company. Sakura Tamaya, an executive officer who has led the sales and marketing division from the beginning, received the Special Award for Women's Empowerment. Tokyo's Governor Yuriko Koike remarked on the significance of increasing female leadership in management and development positions, stating that such growth would lead to the evolution of Tokyo. Koike’s personal acknowledgment of the EUREKA name—derived from the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes’ exclamation “I found it!”—reflects the essence of discovering the root of illness and aligns with the company's mission.
In her interaction with the product, Governor Koike also viewed the physical model of EUREKA™ X, signifying her support for innovative healthcare solutions. This recognition serves as a motivation for Anaut to continue its work in addressing challenges within the medical field and expanding product development, with aspirations to elevate their technology internationally.
