Ontario International Airport Sees Surge in TSA PreCheck Enrollment Amid Expansion of Screening Facilities

Growing Popularity of TSA PreCheck at Ontario International Airport

In recent months, Ontario International Airport (ONT) has experienced a remarkable increase in travelers opting for TSA PreCheck. This surge can be attributed to the airport's continuous investments in passenger screening efficiency and modernization. The airport has made considerable efforts to enhance the travel experience by streamlining security processes.

Since the introduction of onsite enrollment kiosks for the Trusted Traveler Program two years ago, TSA PreCheck enrollment at ONT has doubled, rising from 13% to 26% of departing passengers. During peak travel times, particularly in Terminal 4, nearly half of all travelers utilize TSA PreCheck, illustrating its growing popularity among frequent flyers.

Investment in Screening Facilities

The airport's commitment to enhancing its services is evident in its recent upgrades. Terminal 2 now boasts an expanded TSA checkpoint with six screening lanes, including a dedicated lane for TSA PreCheck travelers. Soon, Terminal 4 will also feature a similar lane as part of its expansion plans, further demonstrating ONT's dedication to providing a swift and efficient passenger journey. Although operational demands may create temporary challenges, TSA aims to prioritize the use of these lanes for TSA PreCheck participants whenever feasible.

He added that ongoing investments are designed to improve facilities, allowing eligible travelers to fully enjoy the benefits that TSA PreCheck offers, contributing to one of Southern California's most convenient airport experiences.

Convenient Enrollment Options

In response to increasing passenger volumes, ONT has expanded its services by offering expedited TSA PreCheck enrollment and renewal in both terminals since 2024. This initiative, in collaboration with CLEAR, an authorized enrollment provider, means that travelers can complete their enrollment in just minutes without the need for an appointment. This convenience extends to existing TSA PreCheck members who can renew their memberships onsite, regardless of their original enrollment provider.

TSA PreCheck offers expedited screening for eligible members, allowing approximately 99% of participants to wait 10 minutes or less at security checkpoints nationwide. Members benefit from keeping their shoes, belts, and light jackets on while leaving their laptops and compliant liquids in their bags, significantly easing the burden of security checks.

Alongside TSA PreCheck enrollment, ONT is also proud to host a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Global Entry Enrollment Center for travelers who require expedited processing upon returning from international destinations. This service provides valuable support for frequent international travelers and positions ONT as one of only six locations in California to offer such services.
