Touch Uocchi Aquarium: A New Coastal Experience in Yokosuka
The aquatic world is about to become more accessible and engaging than ever! On April 25, 2025, the Touch Uocchi Aquarium will officially open its doors at Soleil Hill in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. This interactive aquarium, operated by Hibiya Kadan under the Area Management Cooperation in Yokosuka, offers an exciting opportunity to engage with a diverse range of 12 aquatic species, including sturgeons and seahorses.
A Unique Attraction for All Ages
Visitors can look forward to getting up close and personal with marine life in a way that has never been done before. The aquarium promotes a “see, touch, and enjoy” philosophy, making it ideal for families, couples, and friends. From touching a baby sturgeon, which measures around 20cm and has no painful teeth, to interacting with the enchanting seahorse, believed to bring luck and happiness, there's something for everyone.
Additionally, guests can witness the fascinating horseshoe crab, a living fossil that has existed for 200 million years, and see the mudskipper—an extraordinary fish that can travel on land. Other aquatic highlights include piranhas, known for their ferocious feeding habits, and the ancient Polypterus fish, offering feeding experiences as well.
To enhance the interactive atmosphere, the aquarium will also feature a goldfish scooping activity, reminiscent of traditional Japanese festivals. This engaging setup creates an exhilarating environment for visitors to enjoy the aquatic world.
A Year-Round Destination
Located entirely indoors, the Touch Uocchi Aquarium promises a perfect escape from rain or excessive heat, allowing visitors to enjoy it all year round. Whether it's a weekend outing or a spontaneous visit, the aquarium aims to provide unforgettable experiences filled with wonders of the underwater kingdom.
Families, including children aged three and above (with adult supervision required for those under elementary school age), can explore the aquarium's vibrant offerings while enjoying a day filled with learning and fun.
For admission, tickets can be purchased at 1,200 yen (including tax), alternatively, visitors can use three tickets from the amusement play pass. The aquarium's hours vary by season; from March to November, it's open from 10 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays and until 5 pm on weekends and holidays. In winter, the hours remain from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
