ForwardX Celebrates One Year of Successful AMR Deployment at Chery's Dalian Factory
Celebrating One Year of AMR Success at Chery's Dalian Facility
In March 2026, ForwardX Robotics marks a significant milestone as it celebrates the first anniversary of its autonomous mobile robots (AMR) operations at the Chery automobile manufacturing plant in Dalian, China. This innovative deployment continues to support extensive internal logistics operations within the welding and final assembly workshops, demonstrating sustained performance in a high-volume automotive production environment.
Over the past year, the project has seen the integration of 435 AMRs across the facility. Currently, more than 270 autonomous robots are actively working in crucial manufacturing areas, contributing to the production of 800 to 1000 vehicles daily. The deployment has proven instrumental in ensuring a steady flow of materials, a vital aspect of maintaining efficiency on the production line.
Internal Logistics Optimization with AMRs
The automotive industry relies on a continuous supply of materials to keep production lines stable. Internal logistics systems must coordinate the constant movement of thousands of components throughout the workshops to ensure seamless assembly operations.
To address these needs, ForwardX's AMRs have been integrated into two key production areas. In the welding workshop, 121 AMRs are responsible for automated parts supply to the body assembly stations. In the final assembly workshop, 150 AMRs facilitate the transportation of components and distribution of parts among various production stations.
Currently, the AMR system in the welding workshop automates the delivery of 32 different parts, covering over 50% of the material demand. Meanwhile, in the final assembly area, the system manages the supply of 95 parts, meeting nearly 80% of the materials required for production. This level of efficiency enables the robots to handle a significant portion of internal logistics tasks throughout the manufacturing cycle.
Advanced Technology Driving Efficiency
ForwardX's fourth-generation AMR platform employs a combination of visual navigation and an intelligent fleet orchestration system. This technology allows the robots to navigate complex factory environments while dynamically coordinating transport tasks across multiple workshops.
Nicolas Chee, Founder and CEO of ForwardX Robotics, notes, "Extensive automation in the automotive sector requires long-term operational reliability. Over the past year, this deployment has shown how autonomous mobile robots can support stable material flows in complex manufacturing environments."
The introduction of these AMRs has substantially reduced reliance on manual material transportation, thereby improving internal logistics efficiency and supporting lean manufacturing operations. As the system continues to scale with full optimization expected by the end of this year, ForwardX anticipates further enhancements in internal workflows and better labor allocation for value-added tasks.
Looking Ahead
The successful first year of AMR operations at Chery's Dalian plant highlights the potential of large-scale mobile robotics deployment to foster long-term operational stability in high-volume manufacturing settings. As ForwardX Robotics continues to innovate, the company is poised to lead the industry into the future of automated logistics.
For those interested in witnessing the advancements in automotive logistics, ForwardX will be showcasing its solutions at the LogiMate 2026 expo, located in hall 8, booth 8C11.
