Costa Rica Leads Latin America in Reputation



According to the recent RepCore Nations 2025 study conducted by Reputation Lab, Costa Rica has been identified as the nation with the strongest reputation in Latin America. The analysis included a comprehensive assessment of public perception across the prominent industrialized nations, such as the G7 countries, which include the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

In this prestigious ranking, Costa Rica stood out among 20 evaluated Latin American countries, securing its position at the top. Following closely were Peru and Puerto Rico, which were ranked second and third, respectively.

The findings of the RepCore Nations 2025 study underscore the critical importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors as vital contributors to a nation's reputation, especially among audiences in the G7 nations. Notably, ethical standards and environmental performance were deemed the most significant aspects influencing perceptions. Costa Rica excelled as it scored the highest overall in these dimensions.

Additionally, the study assessed how Latin American countries rated each other, revealing that Costa Rica ranked third among the six largest economies in the region, following Uruguay and Brazil. This showcases the high regard in which Costa Rica is held within its own regional context.

Adriana Acosta, who serves as the Director of the essential COSTA RICA Nation Brand, remarked on the study's results, emphasizing the correlation between a nation’s focus on sustainability, ethics, and citizen well-being in cultivating trust. She stated, "The results of RepCore Nations 2025 reaffirm something we know well in Costa Rica: when a country prioritizes these aspects, it builds trust. Our international reputation reflects this shared commitment from public institutions, the private sector, and citizens alike."

The implications of a stronger national reputation are significant. Countries that are perceived positively generally attract more tourists, draw higher levels of foreign direct investment, and tend to perform better in exports. Historical data reveals that a one-point increase in a nation’s RepScore can be associated with an average 7.2% increase in the economic value of tourist arrivals, as well as a 1% boost in foreign direct investment. This analysis relied on data from UN Tourism and UN Trade and Development, demonstrating how Costa Rica’s strong reputation is linked to its tourism and investment trends.

The methodology of this comprehensive study involved conducting over 61,000 surveys across 38 different countries, further validating Costa Rica's position as a trusted and respected nation. Its reputation for sustainability leadership, robust institutional framework, and high quality of life continue to bolster the country's international status.
