AM Green and Port of Rotterdam to Establish a Green Energy Supply Chain

AM Green, a prominent player in renewable energy, has recently entered into a significant collaboration with the Port Authority of Rotterdam, focusing on the establishment of a sustainable energy supply chain. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to facilitate a trade pathway that can transport up to 1,000,000 tons of green energy annually, equating to a potential market value of about 1 billion USD.

The essence of this initiative lies in connecting India's burgeoning green energy sector with the robust infrastructure of Rotterdam, the leading energy port in Europe. The initiative will specifically target the trade of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and bunkering fuels, while also assessing the infrastructure needs for terminal development both within Rotterdam and along the wider supply chain leading into Northwestern Europe.

Gautam Reddy, the CEO of AM Green, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating that it aligns with their ambitious target to produce 5 million tons of green ammonia by 2030. This output is analogous to roughly 1 million tons of green hydrogen, which is becoming increasingly vital as global demand for low-carbon fuels continues to rise. The operational base for this ambitious production target will initially be set in Kakinada, India.

The Port of Rotterdam holds a strategic position as a central logistics hub for Europe, handling approximately 13% of the continent’s total energy demand and acting as a focal point for hydrogen importation. With this partnership, both organizations aspire to significantly contribute to India's Green Hydrogen Mission and Europe's ambitious decarbonization goals.

Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port Authority of Rotterdam, commented, 'We are delighted to partner with AM Green BV to further our commitment to energy transition. This agreement marks a crucial step toward establishing a strong supply chain for low-carbon fuels and products. Given India’s tremendous potential in green hydrogen production, combined with Rotterdam's advantageous location and infrastructure, this collaboration will foster a robust and sustainable green energy supply chain between our regions.'

Furthermore, Anil Chalamalasetty, founder of AM Green and Greenko Group, highlighted the significance of this partnership as a landmark moment in developing a global ecosystem for carbon-free energy. This agreement is expected to streamline the seamless transportation of green molecules and fuels from India to Europe, reinforcing AM Green's position as a key global platform in the transition to clean energy.

The Port of Rotterdam is committed to sustainability and increasing efficiency within its operations, ensuring the safe distribution of hydrogen-based and carbon-reduced products.
