Iowa American Water Unveils 2026 Grant Program for Water and Environment Initiatives

Iowa American Water Launches 2026 Grant Program

Iowa American Water has officially launched the 2026 edition of its Water and Environment Grant Program, showcasing its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote clean water and environmental sustainability. Community partners are invited to apply for grants that aim to address vital issues such as climate variability, water conservation, and environmental education.

"We are excited about this initiative, which builds on years of collaborative efforts aimed at improving water quality and educating the community," said Kathy Wine, Executive Director of River Action, Inc. This organization benefited from past grants to bolster educational programs and improve rainfall data collection efforts among local students. These students are now part of a volunteer network working with organizations like the National Weather Service to provide critical weather observations.

In the previous year, the American Water Charitable Foundation awarded an impressive $1.7 million to support 80 organizations across 12 states, including five worthy projects within Iowa. Recipients included:
  • - Clinton Substance Abuse Council
  • - Bettendorf Public Library Foundation
  • - Nahant Marsh Education Center
  • - River Action, Inc.
  • - Vince Jetter Community Center

Brad Nielsen, the President of Iowa American Water, emphasized the crucial role of environmental stewardship in their operations. He commented, "We recognize the responsibility we hold in protecting and enhancing our water resources. Collaboration with community partners is vital to address environmental issues effectively."

The Foundation's mission revolves around three pillars: Water, People, and Communities. Since its inception in 2012, it has allocated over $25 million in grants and matching gifts designed to improve the lives of individuals in communities served by American Water. Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation, stated, "Our goal is to empower communities to understand the significance of water conservation while encouraging local organizations to take charge of protecting this invaluable resource."

With applications open until March 6, 2026, eligible organizations are encouraged to participate in this initiative, aiming to make a positive impact across the nation.
