Innovative Partnership in Sakura City
On May 7, 2025, a significant agreement was established between Daiwa Paper Co., Ltd., Ito教材社, and Sakura City, marking a new chapter in support for families and care facilities in Japan. The signing ceremony took place at the Sakura City Welfare Center, where representatives from all three parties gathered to solidify their commitment to a subscription-based diaper service and a robust disaster preparedness framework.
Objectives of the Agreement
The primary goal of this partnership is to provide a steady supply of disposable diapers through a subscription service while also ensuring that an adequate stockpile is maintained for use during emergencies. By doing so, they aim to alleviate the burden on parents and caregiving establishments, thereby enhancing community resilience against disasters.
This initiative is particularly noteworthy as it represents the first instance in Japan where a manufacturer collaborates directly with childcare facilities to not only deliver essential products regularly but also create a dependable supply chain for emergencies.
A New Model for Diaper Distribution
The innovative model proposed involves the use of “おむつん,” a subscription-based service developed by Ito教材社. Through this service, disposable diapers and wipes are delivered regularly to childcare facilities. What sets this model apart is its dual purpose; the diapers supplied can be utilized both in daily operations and stored for disaster situations. This ensures that resources are readily available when needed without concentrating supplies in a single location, shifting from a traditional stockpiling approach to a more distributed inventory model.
Promoting Sustainability Through Circulation
An essential aspect of this agreement is the focus on creating a circular supply chain for diapers. Instead of reserving services exclusively for emergencies—where diapers might expire before use—the approach promotes regular usage of the stockpile. This method not only maintains the freshness of the diapers but also minimizes waste from expired products, promoting sustainable practices in diaper provision.
