LUNA SEA's J Unveils New Signature Models from Fender Custom Shop

LUNA SEA’s J Introduces Two New Signature Models

On October 13, 2025, LUNA SEA's bassist J will unveil his latest signature models, Limited Edition Masterbuilt J Precision Bass® King’s Red Sparkle and Limited Edition Masterbuilt J Precision Bass® PJ, King’s Red Sparkle. Produced by Fender Custom Shop, these models are crafted by Greg Fessler, a master builder known for his attention to detail. Orders will be taken through Fender Flagship Tokyo and selected dealers.

The release coincides with FENDER EXPERIENCE 2025, an immersive event where J will share insights about his new models. J, who debuted in the music scene in 1992 as LUNA SEA's bassist, has left an indelible mark with his unique style, winning accolades including the title of the greatest bassist through various voting initiatives.

The foundry behind these instruments — Fender Custom Shop — has been synonymous with quality craftsmanship since its inception in 1987. J’s passion for music and the art of sound has forged a strong relationship with Fender, culminating in the creation of these exquisite basses.

In the recent #GreatestBassist2025 poll, J secured the top spot, highlighting his influence and respect within the rock community. His endeavor with Fender kicked off in 2019, and since then, J's vision has been showcased in models like the ’57 Precision Bass® Relic® Reverse Head Black Gold. Each model developed with Fender reflects J’s artistic identity, characterized by thoughtful details such as the Champagne Gold finish developed in 2021.

New Models: A Closer Look

The King’s Red Sparkle series takes inspiration from traditional Precision Bass designs while introducing a striking finish that captures attention. Its unique features include a 2-piece select ash body and a reverse head design, both crafted to enhance playability with a ‘57 soft “V” profile neck and a 7.25-inch radius.

The models showcase exceptional sound versatility with Hand-Wound 62 Precision Bass® Pickups, crafted by Custom Shop’s master pickup winder, Josefina Campos. In addition, the PJ model will include the Custom Shop Josefina Hand-Wound Vintage Jazz Bass® Pickup, offering bassists a wider range of sonic possibilities.

J expressed his vision for these basses: “Red has always been a special and symbolic color to me. I wanted to bring that to the forefront with King’s Red Sparkle. Through my journey with Fender, I’ve aimed to merge my artistic identity with their profound legacy.”

Master builder Greg Fessler spoke about the collaboration, applauding J’s artistic clarity. “Working with J is always an enlightening experience. The King’s Red Sparkle represents a bold, timeless strength.” Each detail of these instruments is a testament to J’s performance essence on stage.
