Enhancing Construction Sites with Builders Point Program
Revista, headquartered in Koto, Tokyo, has recently introduced its innovative point service,
Builders Point, aimed at construction workers. This initiative, now trialed at various sites of
Toda Corporation in Tokyo, is transforming how communication and health safety measures are implemented on construction sites.
Introduction of Builders Point
The
Builders Point program is designed to reward construction workers for their efforts and participation in various activities. It serves as a modern approach to recognizing their hard work, enhancing morale and motivating them to engage more actively in safety practices. The program was introduced at two significant sites: the Fujisawa Improvement Project, a public civil engineering work by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and a multi-purpose hall construction project in Nagoya.
Motivating Workers at the Fujisawa Site
At the Fujisawa site,
Builders Point was introduced as a way to appreciate the workers continuously laboring on projects. Previously, to show gratitude, Toda Corporation organized events like BBQs and beverage distributions, which often disrupted workflow due to time constraints. The
Builders Point program emerged as a solution to balance appreciation with minimal downtime, improving the work environment and attracting and retaining skilled labor.
To foster a proactive mindset toward health safety, the program encouraged workers to take part in initiatives around heatstroke prevention. Workers who actively cleaned toilets, or participated in heat safety measures, such as equiping themselves with vital heat-resistant items or wearable sensors, were rewarded with points. Positive feedback was quickly noted as workers appreciated the initiative, leading to more compliance with safety practices.
Incentives at the Multi-Purpose Hall Site
Similarly, at the multi-purpose hall construction site, the program served as an incentive for workers to engage in safety-focused activities. Numerous safety events, educational programs, and health initiatives were executed, with points awarded to participants. For instance, workers collecting weekly health data through walking challenges or watching safety training videos were enthusiastic about earning points. Feedback from the workforce confirmed that these incentives not only motivated them but also enhanced their safety awareness and proactive behavior.
Impact and Feedback
Management at both sites echoed a sense of accomplishment as they observed shifts in workforce engagement. Yuki Yamaguchi, site manager at the Fujisawa project, explained how the program encouraged dialogue between the prime contractors and workers. The collaborative spirit fostered by the point awards made workers more willing to participate in required tasks they may have previously deemed tedious. Yamaguchi noted:
"If more sites adopt this system, the motivation from our skilled workers would surely increase!"
On the other hand, Yoshihiro Tsuboi, from the Nagoya branch, expressed hopes for future developments using the
Builders Point, emphasizing efforts aimed at tackling industry-wide labor shortages. He suggested that linking point awards to the purchase of hydrating beverages during hot weather events could enhance worker welfare substantially.
Builders Point: A Comprehensive Incentive System
Builders Point is designed to offer prime contractors customizable options to develop their point systems. Contractors can award points based on various criteria such as attendance at safety sessions or participation in clean-up efforts. Points can be converted to
PayPay Money Light for use in associated services or retailers, facilitated through a dedicated app connected to Revista's construction management platform,
Buildee. This integration promotes seamless communication and management within construction projects.
