Exploring the Cultural and Industrial Dialogue Between Hangzhou and Paris

In a remarkable confluence of cities, Paris and Hangzhou, though thousands of miles apart, are connected by a long-standing cultural affinity. This connection was vividly illustrated during the recent Hangzhou Promotion Event, which took place along the banks of the Seine River, creating a compelling dialogue between the two cities.

Organized by the Hangzhou International Communication Center (HZICC) alongside the Linping District International Communication Center, the event operated under the theme "Dialogue of Cultures: From Cultural Heritage to Industrial History." It showcased Hangzhou as a city rich with history while boldly looking toward the future. After a Mediterranean dialogue tour in 2025 dubbed "Hangzhou – A Window to 5,000 Years of Chinese Civilization," the HZICC shifted its focus from exploring ancient roots towards fostering industrial relationships.

Ji Tao, the operational manager of HZICC, emphasized this transformation by stating, "Hangzhou is turning its industrial strengths, innovative spirit, and urban narratives into a global story that can be felt, understood, and shared." This narrative was vividly brought to life through the voices of local enterprises.

A discussion session highlighting industrial synergies and cultural exchanges deepened the conversation. An important contributor, Cainiao Global Supply Chain, shared plans to reduce delivery times between China and France to just three days. Meanwhile, AliExpress highlighted trends toward increased localization and EU tax reforms that encourage premium brands to establish local warehouses. E-Fashion Town reflected on a decade-long collaboration with the Institut Français de la Mode and international brands, shedding light on the growing interconnectedness of fashion across borders. Additionally, CFMOTO discussed how Chinese powersport brands are surpassing competitors through advancements in technology and brand marketing.

Charles-Emmanuel Dewees, the founder of the NICE platform for cultural exchange, posed an interesting question: "Can web novels become a common language? Absolutely. When language is no longer a barrier, it’s the shared language that touches the heart."

Outside the conference hall, a display stood out showcasing Hangzhou's cultural and creative products. Visitors could explore traditional building blocks, celadon tea sets, city mascots, and more. One French visitor, Hugo Nicoli, who previously enjoyed tea by the West Lake, felt inspired by the porcelain and architectural miniatures, expressing a desire to return with his family.

The promotion marked just the beginning of deeper connections. Over four days, the HZICC team filmed various segments in Paris—from selecting products in a Tmall Global office to package sorting in a Cainiao warehouse, as well as test drives at CFMOTO stores and fashion experiences at the boutique "MEILLEUR MOMENT."

Ultimately, the stories gleaned from these encounters along the Seine in France are set to make their way back to the Grand Canal in China. These two waterways remind us that the distance between them is never as vast as it appears, bridging cultures and industries across continents.
