Born Primitive and Black Rifle Coffee Join Forces for Veterans Day Campaign to Cancel Medical Debt

Stronger Together: A Veterans Day Initiative

This Veterans Day weekend, Born Primitive and Black Rifle Coffee Company are banding together for a meaningful cause—eliminating up to $25 million in medical debt owed by veterans. From November 7 to 11, every dollar made by either company will contribute directly to alleviating this financial burden for over 10,000 military veterans across the United States. This initiative, in partnership with ForgiveCo, aims to uplift those who have served and sacrificed for the nation's freedom.

Bear Handlon, co-founder and CEO of Born Primitive, has a strong connection to this cause as a former U.S. Navy SEAL Lieutenant. He states, “Veterans sacrifice for our freedom, and too often they return home to fight another battle – medical bills.” This sentiment drives the mission to not only raise money but to make a substantial impact in the lives of those who have given so much.

Statistics reveal a concerning reality: over 33% of veterans face unexpected medical bills surpassing $1,000 even when they are insured. Furthermore, one in five veterans deals with medical debt in collections, a statistic much higher than the general population, where only 13% encounter this situation. Many post-9/11 veterans confront additional challenges due to service-related conditions and difficulties in accessing Veterans Affairs care. The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated, as financial struggles can lead to severe repercussions like eviction or housing instability.

Mat Best, Co-Founder of Black Rifle Coffee Company, emphasizes the company's commitment to veterans, declaring, “Our veterans already paid the price for freedom; they shouldn't have to keep paying the cost of care.” The pledge to eradicate $25 million in veteran medical debt transcends mere charity; it symbolizes a promise of solidarity amongst veterans and those who support them. This collaborative effort aims to lighten the load for heroes who previously faced the daunting task of battling medical debt alone.

Last year, Born Primitive had already made significant strides in this area, wiping out approximately $11 million in medical debt for around 6,000 veterans. The strategy employed by ForgiveCo includes an innovative approach that allows the organization to acquire qualifying debt and extinguish it without any complicated applications, making the process entirely seamless for the beneficiaries. Veterans who qualify for assistance will be personally notified through their random acts of kindness model, creating a direct and personal connection to this charitable effort.

Erik Antico, President of ForgiveCo notes, “This debt relief doesn't just wipe away numbers on a page; it lifts a crushing weight off the shoulders of veterans who can now focus on their health, families, and futures.” The essence of this campaign lies in demonstrating gratitude and support for veterans, allowing them to focus on what truly matters in their lives beyond financial stress.

Both Born Primitive and Black Rifle Coffee Company have exhibited a consistent commitment to the military community. To date, the two brands have collectively raised over $13 million for veterans, first responders, and cancer prevention initiatives since their inceptions. Shoppers can aid in the cause simply by purchasing products online from either company during the campaign period from November 7–11. Every sale generates direct funds that will contribute to eliminating veteran medical debt, serving not just as a transaction, but a lifeline for the brave individuals who have served this great nation.
