Envision and Statera Partner for Major 680 MW Energy Storage Project in UK
Envision and Statera Collaborate on the Carrington Energy Storage Project
Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, has announced its partnership with Statera Energy, a UK-based firm, to deliver a revolutionary Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the Carrington storage project. With a total capacity of 680 MW / 1360 MWh, Carrington is set to become one of the largest single-site energy storage projects in the UK upon achieving financial closure. This significant milestone represents a pivotal step towards creating a more renewable, flexible, and intelligent electricity system that enhances grid resilience and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Located in the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, the Carrington storage system is projected to commence operations by the end of 2026. Once operational, it is expected to power approximately 2.2 million homes for up to two hours. This initiative is crucial in stabilizing the grid, alleviating renewable production curtailment, and aiding the UK's net-zero emissions and energy security targets.
The project has gathered crucial support from prominent institutions including Lloyds, Statkraft, NatWest, Santander, Siemens Bank, SEB, and Mizuho, showcasing the strong institutional confidence in large-scale battery energy storage as a key element in energy transition. Envision Energy will provide its AI-driven BESS, designed for high integration of renewable energies, superior efficiency, and optimal performance throughout its lifecycle.
Statera Energy opted for Envision not only due to its global expertise in energy storage and system integration but also because of its innovative AI-based solution. By utilizing a large-scale energy model, the system can monitor real-time grid conditions, actively participate in grid configuration control, and ensure stability even with high renewable penetration. Its closed-loop algorithm of “prediction - dispatch - monetization - self-learning” transforms revenue generation from experience-based to model-based, allowing sustainable, replicable, and measurable growth.
This advancement represents a generational improvement over traditional hardware assets, transitioning to AI-driven assets that provide high energy density, low noise levels, greater flexibility, and superior profitability. Consequently, it becomes a fundamental pillar for a stable and cost-effective renewable energy system.
Henry Peng, Senior Vice President and Head for Latin America and Europe at Envision Energy, stated, “As one of the largest battery energy storage sites in the UK, the Carrington project represents another significant step towards fulfilling the nation's clean energy ambitions. We are honored to collaborate with Statera and other key players in the energy and finance sectors to implement our AI-based BESS solutions, furthering Statera’s ambition to achieve over 5 GW of BESS capacity by 2030. Together, we are enhancing the flexibility and reliability of the electricity grid and accelerating the UK's transition towards a low-carbon, renewable energy future.”
Matt Arnold, Director of BESS Flex Gen at Statera Energy, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We are pleased to work with Envision Energy on the Carrington storage project. We chose Envision for its strong track record in large-scale energy storage development and its integrated AI-based approach. This collaboration strengthens our ability to provide flexible and reliable energy to the UK electricity grid and supports the country’s transition to a low-carbon future.”
Envision Energy has been actively engaged in Europe, with various energy transition initiatives in the UK, France, Spain, and other countries. The successful implementation of the Carrington project is expected to further solidify Envision’s position in the European energy storage and renewable energy markets.
