OneAmerica Financial® Celebrates 12th Annual Week of Caring

OneAmerica Financial® has kicked off its 12th annual 'Week of Caring', a heartfelt initiative aimed at giving back to local communities through volunteer service. This cherished organizational tradition has seen hundreds of dedicated associates offer their time and skills to support a range of nonprofit organizations, fostering a spirit of unity and service.

A Commitment to Service

The Week of Caring involves associates actively participating in volunteer activities that benefit various nonprofits—this year, 26 organizations are being supported through both in-person and virtual engagements. Kim Thomas, the Senior Vice President and Chief HR Officer for OneAmerica Financial, emphasizes the depth of character and company culture that emerges when employees dedicate their time to serve. She notes, "When our associates give their time to serve others, it shows the true spirit of who we are. Volunteering not only brings a sense of pride within OneAmerica Financial but also creates a lasting impact in the communities we call home."

The activities are predominantly centered in Indianapolis, where most of the associates reside. However, employees based in other regions are equally invited to contribute by volunteering for virtual activities that support national organizations. This inclusive approach ensures that all associates, regardless of location, can participate and positively affect communities.

Key Partnerships and Volunteer Efforts

OneAmerica collaborates with a variety of nonprofits during this week, including known agencies such as Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, Dress for Success, and the American Red Cross. These partnerships enhance the impact of the Week of Caring, making it an essential part of the company's ongoing commitment to social responsibility. For instance, associates can participate in virtual sessions organized by the American Red Cross or engage in activities supporting local needs through Second Helpings and other participating organizations.

Last year, OneAmerica’s commitment to community service resulted in over 2,400 volunteer hours contributed by its associates. This robust participation highlights the company’s dedication to giving back, showcasing how corporate efforts can significantly enhance community welfare. The Week of Caring does not stand alone; it is part of a larger philanthropic campaign, OneAmerica Financial Cares, which occurs from September to mid-October. This initiative raised over $688,000 in 2024 to benefit local communities across the United States.

A Legacy of Volunteerism

Since its inception in 2014, OneAmerica has led the way in central Indiana by committing an entire workweek to volunteer services, setting a precedent for businesses striving to balance corporate performance with social impact. Each year, associates are immersed in activities and initiatives that provide hands-on assistance where it’s most needed. This unique approach not only supports the community but also reinforces employee camaraderie and provides fulfilling experiences for participants.

Through the years, the Week of Caring has evolved into a defining aspect of OneAmerica’s identity as a people-first, mutual organization. The commitment to helping others embodies their enduring promise to prioritize customer interests and community betterment. As the team gears up for this year’s week of service, there’s an unmistakable energy and enthusiasm among the associates, reflecting a culture of compassion that is inspiring to witness.
