The story of “Le gai mariage” revolves around Henri de Sassy, a charming bachelor known for his womanizing ways, who has no intention of settling down. His life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers that he has inherited one million euros from his late Aunt Yvonne—but with a catch: he must marry within a year to claim the fortune. Faced with this predicament, Henri and his friend Norbert come up with a plan to stage a fake same-sex marriage with Henri’s beloved friend, Dodo. However, Dodo’s transformation from a sweet and supportive friend to a demanding partner complicates matters, leading to unforeseen consequences involving Henri’s devout father and his romantic interest, Élisa.
Nishikiori Kazukiyo: A Multifaceted Talent
Director Nishikiori Kazukiyo, born in 1965 in Tokyo, has enjoyed a remarkable career trajectory, notably leading the idol group Shonentai to superstardom. Known for his versatility, he has not only starred in numerous television dramas and stage plays but also carved a niche as a talented director. His directorial debut came in 1995 with Shonentai’s musical “PLAYZONE,” propelling him into the world of stage direction. Since then, he has contributed to significant productions, including musicals based on “The Great Gatsby” and adaptations of famous literary works. In 2020, he left Johnny & Associates after 40 years to embark on a path of independent artistry.
The play's translation was entrusted to Masahiro Iwakiri, who is well-known for his work on prominent French theatrical pieces, marking another high-profile collaboration with esteemed directors.
Producer Shitaki Shiori, who made her film debut alongside Sayuri Yoshinaga, has established herself as a formidable producer and director, recognized for her ability to bring compelling narratives to life on stage.
