Norwood Medical Partners with ENGIE to Enhance Renewable Energy Commitment
Norwood Medical Enhances Sustainability Efforts through Partnership with ENGIE
Norwood Medical LLC, based in Dayton, Ohio, has taken a significant step in its commitment to sustainability by forging a partnership with ENGIE Resources LLC, a subsidiary of ENGIE North America. This collaboration, which spans five years, aims to integrate renewable wind energy into Norwood Medical's operational framework, particularly across its headquarters in Dayton.
The agreement outlines that initially, 50% of Norwood Medical's electricity consumption across four of its locations will be matched with renewable energy sources delivered by ENGIE. As the partnership progresses, the goal is to escalate that commitment to 100% renewable energy for eleven buildings. This will include securing approximately 120,000 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) sourced from ENGIE’s Priddy Wind Project located in Texas.
Norwood Medical plans to procure Green-e® Certified RECs, which are verified by the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions. The initiative is designed to produce environmental benefits equivalent to preventing the greenhouse gas emissions that would ordinarily result from burning 52 million pounds of coal or approximately 47,223 metric tons of CO2. This move aligns with Norwood's overall mission to reduce carbon emissions significantly.
Jeremiah Allen, Vice President of Engineering at Norwood Medical, emphasized the company’s ambitious sustainability objectives: "We are targeting a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a baseline year of 2021, with a long-term goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050." He added, "Minimizing our environmental impact is critical. Utilizing renewable energy is key to reaching our target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by half relative to 2021 levels."
The collaboration is supported by Statistical Energy, a consultancy firm based in Dublin, Ohio, that advised Norwood Medical on this agreement. Michael Jackson, CEO/Partner of Statistical Energy, expressed pride in partnering with two organizations committed to carbon reduction, noting that the agreement demonstrates how renewable energy can be tailored to confront market fluctuations while meeting the needs of growing commercial electricity consumers.
Statistical Energy conducted a comprehensive assessment of Norwood’s energy usage and growth projections alongside historical pricing and market trends. Following this analysis, a structured agreement was developed that balances market risks while providing options for later price locks or flexibility based on changing supply and demand dynamics on the PJM grid.
Norwood Medical has established itself as a leading entity in the Medtech sector by providing comprehensive advanced medical manufacturing solutions for various medical organizations. With a legacy that dates back to the 1920s, the company has built a solid reputation for addressing challenging manufacturing tasks that few contract medical manufacturers can handle. Presently, Norwood Medical serves a wide array of prominent medical Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across numerous product categories.
In summary, this partnership with ENGIE marks a pivotal advancement for Norwood Medical, enhancing its resolve toward maintaining a sustainable operation while reinforcing its position as a trailblazer in medical manufacturing. As global efforts toward carbon neutrality intensify, Norwood Medical's proactive approach showcases its commitment to environmental responsibility through renewable energy utilization and effective resource management.
