AMIGO LNG and Gunvor Partner for Major Long-Term LNG Supply Agreement
AMIGO LNG Signs 20-Year LNG Supply Agreement with Gunvor
AMIGO LNG S.A. de C.V., a collaborative venture between Texas-based Epcilon LNG LLC and Singapore's LNG Alliance, has made headlines with the signing of a significant 20-year Long-Term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with one of the world's foremost independent commodity trading companies, Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd. This agreement is set to see Gunvor acquire an impressive 0.85 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG), with supplies scheduled to commence once AMIGO LNG's initial liquefaction train is fully operational, anticipated for the latter half of 2028.
This strategic partnership is a pivotal step for AMIGO LNG, consolidating its status as the first large-scale LNG export terminal situated on the west coast of the Americas. The facility, located in Guaymas, is strategically positioned near the prolific U.S. Permian Basin, allowing for competitive pricing in LNG supplies tailored for customers across Asia and Latin America.
Kalpesh Patel, Co-Head of LNG Trading at Gunvor, shared insights on this collaboration, stating that it aligns with their commitment to securing long-term LNG supplies that can respond to the evolving energy demands of global clients. He emphasized that this partnership not only diversifies their sourcing options but also supports the worldwide shift toward more sustainable energy solutions.
Dr. Muthu Chezhian, CEO of LNG Alliance, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Gunvor as a foundational partner. He noted that this agreement exemplifies the confidence that leading global energy players have in AMIGO LNG's capability to deliver reliable and competitively priced LNG to the international market.
This collaboration does more than just strengthen the global LNG supply network; it also acts as a conduit for energy trade between the U.S. and Mexico. By monetizing U.S. natural gas exports via Mexico's western coastline, the project enhances bilateral energy integration, fosters economic benefits on both sides, and fortifies the partnership between the United States and Mexico in delivering secure, affordable energy products globally.
