Herman Miller, a renowned name in design, is set to make waves at the upcoming NYCxDESIGN festival with the launch of its New Mexico Collection on May 20, 2025. This exclusive collection features two limited-edition pieces: the Girard Snake Table and a unique variant of the Eames Wire Chair Low Base. Both designs pay homage to the vibrant artistic community that thrived in New Mexico, particularly the relationships between iconic figures such as Alexander Girard, Charles and Ray Eames, and legendary painter Georgia O'Keeffe.
Inspiration Behind the Collection
New Mexico has long been celebrated as a haven for artists. From the mid-20th century, creatives from various backgrounds converged there, drawing inspiration from the stunning landscape and each other’s innovations. O'Keeffe, who settled in Abiquiú in 1949, became synonymous with this creative scene. Girard and his wife, Susan, moved from Michigan to New Mexico in 1953, leading to a rich friendship with O'Keeffe. Girard's keen eye for design led him to collaborate with O'Keeffe on several projects, including the interior of her iconic home.
