Kenko Mayonnaise Contributes to Local Community Through Cleanup Activities in Chiyoda Ward

Kenko Mayonnaise's Commitment to Community Cleanliness

On June 9, 2023, Kenko Mayonnaise Co., Ltd., headquartered in the heart of Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, participated in the Chiyoda Ward Cleanup Day initiative. This event encouraged a collective effort from local groups, including companies, schools, and residential associations, to enhance their living environment through joint cleanup activities.

Following its relocation to Chiyoda Ward earlier this year, Kenko Mayonnaise leveraged this opportunity as its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. Eighteen employees volunteered for the initiative, demonstrating their commitment to giving back to the community.

The Chiyoda Ward Cleanup Day occurs twice annually each June and November, adhering to the local community environment ordinance. It aims to promote awareness and participation in environmental beautification efforts. This year marked a particularly special occasion for Kenko Mayonnaise as it engaged with the local neighborhood for the first time since its move.

The volunteers were selected through an internal call for participation, with various motives inspiring their involvement. Some expressed a desire to better understand their new surroundings. “I wanted to participate as a way to get to know the area better since we just relocated,” said one volunteer. Others shared their aspirations to contribute positively to the community, while some simply sought to foster social connections within the company.

The cleanup began at the Kojimachi Kozaikan Building, the location of Kenko Mayonnaise's Tokyo headquarters. The employees formed groups and ventured out to the Kojimachi station area, where they meticulously collected litter, including cigarette butts and other debris, using tongs and scrapers for about an hour.

Participants reflected on their experiences, sharing insights that highlighted the importance of ongoing cleanliness efforts. Many were surprised at the amount of trash present in what they initially perceived as a pristine office district. Comments such as, “This area is cleaner than I expected, but a deeper look revealed the importance of daily upkeep,” underscored their realizations. Additionally, volunteers found this endeavor to be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the neighborhood's architecture and community events.

Kenko Mayonnaise has a longstanding history of contributing to local initiatives, including food donations to children's dining facilities and participation in community events. Looking ahead, the company is excited to continue this momentum into the future, planning to participate in the upcoming second Chiyoda Ward Cleanup Day scheduled for November.

The company's commitment does not stop here, as Kenko Mayonnaise remains dedicated to enhancing its role within Chiyoda Ward and supporting local initiatives. Through its ongoing CSR activities, the firm aims to foster a positive impact on both the environment and the community it serves.
