Explore the Magical World of Nontan at PLAY! PARK

This summer, from July 18 to September 27, children and families can immerse themselves in the delightful universe of Nontan, a beloved character from Japanese children's literature, at PLAY! PARK in Tachikawa, Tokyo. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Nontan series, this special event will offer unique play experiences inspired by the enchanting stories.

Overview of Events

The event will feature three main activities that recreate scenes from the much-loved Nontan books, allowing young participants to engage their creativity and energy through play.

1. Play with the Colorful Shredded Paper
Drawing inspiration from the storybook Nontan Pappara Panashi released in 1986, children will gather colorful pieces of paper to create a huge mound of fun. Here, they can tear, throw, and play to their heart’s content. After the fun, they'll decorate their creations with pipe cleaners and personal photos, connecting their masterpieces to a larger community artwork that will adorn a dedicated panel.
- Age group: 3 to 12 years
- Participation method: Reservations required on the day of the event (a lottery will be held if participants exceed 10).

2. Explore the Shredded Play World
Aimed at the littlest visitors (0-2 years), this workshop will substitute colorful scraps for finger foods, enveloping babies in soft fabrics and balloons as they play. They'll indulge in sensory experiences by hiding in fabric piles, tossing colorful objects, and participating in a group cleanup just like Nontan would!

3. Nontan and the Stars with Eggs
A giant play structure resembling a star created from eggs will be accessible to all kids from 0 to 12 years. Standing at an impressive 5 meters, this soft and cuddly installation invites kids to clamber aboard and explore.

Special Exhibition Tour

In addition to these engaging activities, children can participate in a unique exhibition tour where they will make cookies inspired by Nontan's Birthday story before delivering them to the museum below PLAY! PARK. This interactive angle adds an artistic touch, as kids can take home their delightful cookie creations.
- Dates: July 29 and August 26, 2026 from 14:00 to 15:30

Workshop with Cardboard Artist

From July 11 to 13, children will also have an exclusive chance to work alongside a talented cardboard artist, creating a 4-meter tall Nontan red car. This activity will engage participants in crafting the actual exhibit that will be displayed in the adjacent museum.
