IHG Hotels & Resorts Expands in Kyoto with Garner Hotel
IHG Hotels & Resorts has recently announced the upcoming launch of the Garner Hotel Kyoto Shijo Karasuma, marking the brand's entry into Kyoto, Japan. The hotel is set to open in November 2025, featuring a total of 103 rooms in a converted existing hotel structure. This exciting development is a part of IHG's strategy to broaden its mid-scale conversion brand, Garner, thereby enhancing accommodation options for travelers in Kyoto.
The Garner Hotel is strategically located in the upscale district of Shijo Karasuma, known for its sophisticated ambiance and vibrant city life. This new addition will be the fourth Garner branded hotel in Japan, following the brand's recent launch in the country just six months ago. The development aims to provide enhanced lodging options for both domestic and international guests visiting Kyoto, a city that attracts increasing interest from travelers.

Abhijit Sandeep, Managing Director of IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan & Micronesia and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, stated, "We are thrilled to partner with Taisei Yurika and Pacifica Hotels to make the Garner brand's debut in Kyoto. In just six months, we have managed to bring the Garner brand to this culturally rich city, which is a significant milestone for our rapidly growing mid-scale conversion brand."
Sandeep further acknowledged the ongoing expansion of IHG's portfolio, which now includes various brands ranging from mid-scale options like Garner and Holiday Inn to premium choices like Crowne Plaza and luxury offerings like Six Senses and the upcoming Regent Hotels.
Taisei Yurika President Kenji Uekusa expressed his excitement about the partnership with IHG: "We are delighted to open the first Garner Hotel in Kyoto. As interest in Kyoto continues to rise among both domestic and international travelers, it's the perfect timing to expand our accommodation offerings."
Similarly, Seth Sulkin, President of Pacifica Hotels, remarked on the strengthened relationship with IHG through this agreement. "We see significant growth potential in the mid-scale market, and we are excited to be part of the expansion of the Garner brand in Japan," Sulkin stated.
