Experience the Essence of Kouri Island with the New Breakfast Menu
YAWN YARD Kouri Island, a private resort in the northern part of Okinawa, is set to unveil a renewed breakfast menu called 'Kouri Island Morning' starting January 2026. This delightful offering, featuring abundant local ingredients, will not only be available to hotel guests but also to visitors from outside for a limited period beginning January 15, 2026.
A Commitment to Local Cuisine
At YAWN YARD, the culinary approach revolves around 'cooking that contributes to the local community.' Through communication with local farmers and chefs, the resort incorporates wisdom and flavors from the region into its dishes. Depending on the season, guests can expect to savor fresh island vegetables in spring, tropical fruits and lush summer veggies in summer, and the citrus fruits and seafood of winter. The kitchen actively collaborates with local producers to feature less common traditional and island vegetables in the menu.
The dining experience emphasizes community and connection, rooted in the spirit of 'eating together' and 'mindful eating' (Kusui Mun). Dine in a semi-outdoor setting, surrounded by the sounds and sights of the beautiful Yanbaru landscape.
Introducing 'Kouri Island Morning'
The star of the new breakfast menu is a unique rice dish (Sefan) featuring locally sourced Mozuku seaweed, emblematic of Kouri Island's rich culinary heritage. This 'experience of eating the land' is characterized by the clever use of regional ingredients and traditional cooking methods. Guests will indulge in flavors that are gently elevated through the use of salt and miso, ensuring the natural tastes shine.
Prepared exclusively with ingredients sourced from within a 20 km radius of Kouri Island, this breakfast allows diners to savor a meal that truly connects them to the island's vibrant essence. Enjoy this meal while enveloped by the sights and sounds of nature, where light, breeze, and the songs of birds blend seamlessly with the dining experience.
A Modern take on Traditional Ryukyu Cuisine
The breakfast experience takes inspiration from Ryukyu's court cuisine, specifically the rice dish traditionally served at the end of feasts to calm the body. At YAWN YARD, it has been reimagined as a light, welcoming dish designed to start the day beautifully. The bowl is garnished with local Mozuku and seasonal ingredients, ready to be enjoyed with a delicate broth.
For an enhanced culinary experience, guests are encouraged to explore three different ways to enjoy this dish:
1.
Savor the Pure Flavor: Experience the essence of each ingredient as it is.
2.
Deeper Taste with Sweet Miso Sauce: Elevate the flavors with a drizzle of sweet miso sauce.
3.
Comfort in the Bowl: Enjoy it like a warm ochazuke with local chicken and bonito broth, creating a comforting connection to the island's atmosphere.
With each ingredient representing the local cuisine and seasonal offerings, this breakfast allows guests to engage in a special culinary journey through Kouri Island's landscape and culture.
Limited-Time 'Garden Breakfast'
For a limited time, guests can relish 'Kouri Island Morning' at YAWN YARD’s newly opened restaurant 'Garden Breakfast.' This venue allows non-staying guests to soak in the tranquil atmosphere of Kouri Island while enjoying the unique breakfast experience.
