Exciting New Specialty Coffee Experience from Australia's Single O Opens in Kanda Awaji

A New Chapter in Coffee Culture: Single O Opens in Kanda Awaji

On April 24, 2025, the much-anticipated specialty coffee roaster Single O is set to unveil its latest and largest location in Japan at Waterras Common, Kanda Awaji, Tokyo. This new space not only marks the fourth outlet of the brand locally but also promises a vibrant community-driven café experience amidst the historic backdrop of Kanda Awaji, just a stone's throw away from Akihabara.

A Journey of Passion since 2003
Founded in Sydney in 2003, Single O has steadily grown its footprint in Japan, starting operations here in 2014. Based in Ryogoku, the company focuses on sourcing and roasting high-quality coffee beans from around the globe, supplying not just their cafes but also numerous restaurants and cafés across the country. With a commitment to ethical trading practices, producer support, and environmental sustainability, Single O continues to champion a sustainable coffee culture.

The new "SINGLE O KANDA AWAJI" location embodies the brand's philosophy of "Going Big at Kanda Awaji," which reflects their commitment to making impactful strides and pursuing bold challenges. The expansive café aims to enrich the surrounding community, providing a space for daily encounters, whether it's grabbing a coffee before work, enjoying lunch, or unwinding after a busy day.

Innovative Coffee Experience
Equipped with six Tap Coffee systems that enable coffee lovers to enjoy their brews in approximately ten seconds, SINGLE O KANDA AWAJI promises efficiency alongside its exceptional offerings. Customers will be delighted with a diverse range of coffees, from classic blends to unique single-origin selections. To commemorate the grand opening, they will release a limited-edition special Colombian micro-lot Geisha, known for its meticulous double fermentation processes that enhance its floral and citrus notes—surely a must-try for any coffee enthusiast.

In a first for Single O, the new establishment will also feature a food menu that complements its coffee selection. From an Australian-style breakfast to healthy bowls, craft beers, and creatively designed coffee cocktails, patrons can indulge in delicious offerings suited to any time of the day.

Highlights from the food menu include:
  • - Mothership Bowl: A hearty dish packed with seasonal vegetables, perfect for a nourishing lunch.
  • - Yuzu Benny: A unique twist on the classic eggs benedict that incorporates the traditionally enjoyed Japanese yuzu.
  • - Banana Bread: A beloved staple from the original Sydney location, served with espresso butter for an extra kick.
  • - O Ball: A plant-based energy ball made with espresso-infused dates and nuts, ideal for a refreshing snack.

An Engaging Atmosphere of Art and Sustainability
The design of SINGLE O KANDA AWAJI reflects the spirit of Sydney, crafted by the architectural firm Luchetti Krele. The space aims to foster connections through coffee, allowing stories to unfold in a lively and playful environment. Artwork by artist Nori Okawa adorns the café, vividly illustrating the wonder and creativity sparked by experiencing Single O's coffee for the first time. Additionally, sustainability features prominently in the café's design, with furniture made from recycled materials and products upcycled from coffee production.

Single O's commitment extends beyond just coffee. Their mission, "Nudge Coffee Forward," underscores their responsibility throughout the entire coffee supply chain, from sustainable partnerships with producers to supporting research on climate-resilient coffee varieties. With a focus on community collaboration, SINGLE O KANDA AWAJI aims to make daily coffee experiences more enjoyable and forward-thinking.
