Northeastern Technical College Enhances Campus Safety with Avive AEDs and Free CPR Training

Enhancing Campus Safety at Northeastern Technical College

In a significant move to strengthen emergency preparedness, Northeastern Technical College (NETC) has introduced 15 Avive Connect AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) across its campus, aiming to enhance the safety of its community, which includes over 1,500 students, faculty, and staff. This initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to improve emergency response capabilities and outcomes for cardiac arrest cases on campus.

The installation of these state-of-the-art AEDs is complemented by a free public CPR and AED training event scheduled for August 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the college auditorium. This session is designed to educate attendees on essential life-saving skills and is open not only to the college community but also to the public. Training will be organized in hourly increments, allowing participants to choose from available time slots:
  • - 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • - 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
  • - 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Volunteers and representatives from Avive Solutions will lead the hands-on training, ensuring that all ages can comfortably learn how to use the AEDs effectively. This initiative, inspired by Director of Campus Safety and Facilities Melvin Warren and facilitated by Dr. Veronica Jenkins of the SCC3 Consortium, marks a key development in NETC's commitment to public health and safety.

Addressing Health Risks on Campus

As more community and technical colleges invest in advanced AED programs, NETC joins this growing trend to reduce health risks and enhance emergency readiness. The AEDs are strategically placed in high-traffic areas and athletic facilities, coupled with clear signage and secure cabinets to guarantee immediate accessibility during emergencies. On the day of the AED delivery, NETC leadership and board members participated in hands-on training, reinforcing their commitment to preparedness and proactive safety measures.

"One of the major reasons we opted for Avive is due to its cost-effectiveness and smart connectivity features," stated Melvin Warren, highlighting the advantages of real-time automated data reporting. This system allows continuous monitoring of AED readiness across the campus, eliminating the need for laborious manual checks and ensuring devices are available when emergency situations arise.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Improved Outcomes

These new AEDs are equipped with innovative, life-saving technology aimed at enhancing response times and treatment effectiveness. Each unit conducts daily self-tests and benefits from remote readiness monitoring through cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS connections. Notably, the devices are integrated with local emergency services; the moment the AED pads are applied to a patient, it automatically alerts emergency responders of the exact GPS location, thereby expediting emergency response.

By fortifying its AED program, Northeastern Technical College is not only boosting safety but also fostering a culture of care and preparedness within its community. The college is dedicated to cultivating a safe environment, highlighting the importance of shared responsibility among its members.
