Gastric Cancer Educational Symposium
On November 1, 2025, Debbie's Dream Foundation (DDF) will proudly co-host a Gastric Cancer Educational Symposium alongside Weill Cornell Medicine. This significant event will take place at the Weill Cornell Medicine Upper East Side campus in New York City and marks the launch of Gastric Cancer Awareness Month.
Chaired by Dr. Rutika Mehta, a prominent medical oncologist at Weill Cornell and a member of DDF's Scientific and Medical Advisory Board, the in-person-only symposium aims to gather experts in gastric cancer treatment. This platform will address the latest trends in prevention, surgical options, clinical trials, and patient-centered healthcare, providing valuable insights for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and advocates.
Dr. Mehta expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m proud to chair this symposium and to collaborate with Debbie's Dream Foundation in advancing conversations around stomach cancer treatment and research. Our goal is to empower patients and providers with the latest knowledge and resources available in this evolving field.”
The symposium is free and accessible to the public, emphasizing DDF's commitment to raising awareness and enhancing outcomes for individuals impacted by gastric cancer, a disease often overshadowed by others.
In addition to clinical discussions, participants can look forward to networking opportunities and workshops aimed at educating attendees on the nuances of stomach cancer, which affects thousands globally each year.
Established in 2009 following Debbie Zelman's own battle with stage IV gastric cancer, DDF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of stomach cancer patients. After being told she had only weeks to live, Debbie fought valiantly for almost a decade, advocating for awareness and funding in stomach cancer research until her passing in 2017. Her legacy continues as DDF works tirelessly to fulfill her mission of curing stomach cancer and supporting those affected.
