Experience a Magical Christmas at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo

Celebrate Christmas at the National Museum of Western Art

The National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo is set to host a month-long celebration titled "Christmas at the Museum" from November 26 to December 25, 2025. This event is a cherished winter tradition that began in 2007 and reflects the museum's extensive collection of Western art themed around Christianity.

This year’s festivities promise a variety of activities that appeal to visitors of all ages. Among them is the exclusive winter audio guide, "Curator's Voice 2025," presented by museum researchers who will explore the themes and stories behind the featured artworks in the permanent collection. Visitors can enjoy the audio guide both in the museum and online from the comfort of their homes through a downloadable app. Just scan the QR code available at the information desk to gain access.

Additionally, the museum will host a "Everyone’s Christmas Carol Concert," designed for both families and first-time visitors. The concert features popular Christmas songs, performed in a welcoming environment, making it accessible for everyone, including those with disabilities. Performers include soprano Ai Okada and other talented vocalists. This event will take place on December 20 and 21, with limited seating available through prior registration.

On December 14, families can enjoy the Kawasaki Free Sunday, offering complimentary access to the permanent collection. This coincides with the museum's festive decorations, including a beautifully adorned Christmas tree in the lobby.

For the littlest guests, the "Relaxing Day with Baby" program on December 15 allows parents with infants to visit the museum for free and take part in storytelling sessions, a perfect opportunity for a nurturing and culture-rich outing.

Engaging Talks and Workshops
The museum will also present gallery talks on December 20-21, offering insights into artworks related to Christmas and Christianity. These talks will be conducted by volunteer staff, with a special session available featuring sign language interpretation, ensuring inclusivity for all attendees.

For those looking to create their own masterpieces, the "Volunteer Art" program invites participants of all ages to engage in simple creative projects inspired by the museum's collection. Led by volunteer staff, this activity is perfect for anyone wanting a hands-on artistic experience.

As the museum extends its hours on Friday and Saturday until 8:00 PM, visitors are encouraged to enjoy a delightful dinner at the museum's restaurant, which features seasonal offerings such as a special roast beef course and a limited edition Christmas cake available from November 26 to December 25.

The museum shop will also offer festive items, including beautifully packaged books and toys themed around museum artworks, perfect for holiday gift-giving.

Current Exhibitions
During the Christmas celebration, guests can also explore the special exhibition "Impressionism from the Musée d'Orsay: Stories Inside the Room," running from October 25, 2025, to February 15, 2026, alongside other ongoing exhibitions that delve into the narrative of printmaking and Flemish artworks.
