SANY and OCHA Formalize Partnership Agreement During HNPW 2026 Event
During the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) 2026, held in March 2026, a significant agreement was reached between the SANY Foundation and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The signing ceremony, attended by major figures in the humanitarian sector, marked a key milestone in formalizing a partnership aimed at improving disaster preparedness, emergency response, and recovery efforts worldwide. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of humanitarian assistance through collaboration and innovation.
The agreement was signed by Edem Wosornu, the director of the Crisis Response Division at OCHA, and Dr. Olivier Huang, president of SANY France. With this partnership, the SANY Foundation has become the first Chinese corporate foundation to formalize an agreement with OCHA, highlighting SANY's dedication to international humanitarian efforts. This partnership aims not only to respond to crises but also to integrate industrial expertise and technological innovation into humanitarian actions.
The HNPW 2026 event served as a platform for the SANY Foundation to showcase its contributions to disaster response initiatives. Notably, the foundation participated in sessions organized by the Connecting Business Initiative (CBI) that focus on engaging the private sector in humanitarian actions. During a themed welcome breakfast hosted by CBI, the SANY Foundation collaborated with notable companies, including Visa, Microsoft, and UPS, to address rapid recovery and reconstruction following disasters.
Danxi Shen, the Secretary-General of the SANY Foundation, shared valuable insights gained from SANY’s previous disaster response efforts in countries affected by earthquakes and floods. He emphasized how construction machinery played a critical role in search and rescue operations, debris removal, road opening, and restoring access to affected communities during crises in Turkey, Myanmar, and the recent flooding incidents in Indonesia and the United States.
On March 11, a significant roundtable discussion took place, focusing on the role of corporate philanthropy in global humanitarian action. Leading representatives from foundations, businesses, and non-governmental organizations convened to discuss collaborative efforts in disaster management. During this session, the SANY Foundation presented its engagement in responding to severe flooding in Sumatra in 2025, where it partnered with Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and KADIN to deploy heavy equipment for over two weeks, facilitating the reopening of multiple emergency access routes.
This discussion underscored the indispensable contribution of private sector resources, networks, and equipment to global crisis responses, especially when mobilized through collaborative efforts. As the signing of the formal agreement concluded, the SANY Foundation and OCHA committed to synergizing their strengths to enhance international humanitarian responses. Kareem Elbayar, the CBI program coordinator, reinforced the necessity for governments, businesses, and civil societies to work together to effectively address global disasters.
With this partnership, SANY seeks to promote the Global Machinery Relief Alliance, an initiative aimed at uniting equipment, technology, and networks to strengthen coordinated humanitarian responses. Through this cooperative effort, SANY demonstrates its unwavering determination to utilize its innovations and industrial expertise for the greater good of humanity, aspiring for a world where no community faces a disaster alone. Such initiatives reflect the growing recognition of the vital role partnerships play in addressing humanitarian challenges across the globe.
