CDNetworks' Resilience Against a 1.01 Tbps DDoS Attack
In a significant feat, CDNetworks, a leading edge services and network provider in the APAC region, announced on December 10, 2025, that it successfully mitigated a large-scale DDoS attack targeting a major software delivery platform on October 11, 2025. The assault peaked at an extraordinary 1.01 Tbps, yet CDNetworks managed to block all malicious traffic without disrupting legitimate communications.
In recent years, ransom-demanding Ransom DDoS (RDDoS) attacks have surged in frequency, with attackers flooding network layers with massive traffic to disrupt normal operations. This particular attack reduced legitimate user traffic by nearly a third, and the perpetrators demanded a ransom to cease the assault.
To address this challenge and safeguard customer services while stabilizing communications, CDNetworks deployed its cloud-based DDoS mitigation platform,
Flood Shield 2.0. This platform boasts a global scrubbing capacity of over 20 Tbps and is equipped with a sophisticated AI engine that detects and filters malicious traffic in real time. It executes adaptive automatic defenses against Layer 3/4 and Layer 7 attacks, providing robust protection for client services.
The attack persisted intermittently for about four weeks; however, due to continuous mitigation efforts, CDNetworks successfully maintained service availability for its customers, allowing them to withstand the assault without paying any ransom.
Antony Li, CDNetworks' APAC Head of Sales, commented on the situation: "The fourth quarter of 2025 saw a sharp rise in extortion attacks targeting software delivery platforms, with over 20 companies falling prey to a similar attack group. Attackers constantly seek vulnerable environments to exploit, highlighting the increasing significance of specialized DDoS defense systems with real-time monitoring and global scrubbing capabilities."
CDNetworks’
Flood Shield 2.0 combines WAF and DDoS defense features based on its advanced AI engine, forming an integral part of its Web Application & API Protection (WAAP) solution. This enables clients to achieve heightened protection for their web applications and APIs.
