Ecopetrol S.A. Makes Significant Changes in Senior Leadership Structure
Ecopetrol S.A. Restructures Leadership Team
Ecopetrol S.A., Colombia's largest company and a leading energy provider across the Americas, has initiated a significant reshuffle in its upper management. Recently, the company’s Board of Directors convened on November 11, 2025, to endorse new leadership positions, effective from November 16, 2025.
New Executive Appointments
The standout appointment is Juan Carlos Hurtado Parra, who has been designated as the Executive Vice President of Hydrocarbons. Hurtado isn't new to the energy sector, boasting over 25 years of extensive experience, predominantly accumulated during his tenure at Ecopetrol. He has held pivotal roles such as Vice President Upstream and Technical Vice President among others. His educational credentials include a degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Industrial de Santander, further specialization in project evaluation and a Master's in Oil & Gas Management from the University of Dundee.
Rafael Ernesto Guzmán Ayala, the outgoing Executive Vice President of Hydrocarbons, is set to explore new professional endeavors within the Ecopetrol Group. The company expressed gratitude for Guzmán's leadership and strategic contributions that benefitted the Hydrocarbons division during his service.
The role of Chief Compliance Officer is assumed by Rodolfo Mario García Paredes, an accomplished attorney with more than 25 years of experience at Ecopetrol. He has held various legal leadership roles, ensuring the company remains in line with compliance standards set forth in the energy sector. García's long-standing experience within the company, including overseeing the Corporate Legal Vice Presidency and General Secretariat, adds a robust layer of legal knowledge to the executive team.
Ecopetrol's Profile and Market Position
Ecopetrol S.A. stands as a crucial player in Colombia and one of the significant integrated energy companies in the American continent. The company employs over 19,000 individuals and is responsible for more than 60% of Colombia's hydrocarbon production, intricately managing logistics and refining systems. Additionally, it has a strong foothold in the petrochemical and gas distribution sectors.
