Frederick Visitor Center to Undergo Final Renovations, Reopening Soon
Frederick Visitor Center: A New Chapter Ahead
The beautiful city of Frederick, Maryland, is home to many historical landmarks, but none may be quite as significant as the Frederick Visitor Center. Located at 151 S. East Street, the center has played a vital role in guiding visitors through the wonders of Frederick County since it was opened by Visit Frederick in 2011. After years of service and appreciation, the center is set to undergo its final stage of renovations, temporarily closing from March 3 to March 7, 2025.
A Historic Transformation
Originally constructed in 1899, the building housing the Frederick Visitor Center has had a storied past, hosting various functions over the decades. This latest update aims to refine the visitor experience through enhancements that celebrate the vibrant history and culture of Frederick County. The closure will pave the way for the installation of new exhibits, promising an even richer narrative of the area’s attractions.
Executive Director Dave Ziedelis shared his sentiments regarding the closure: “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to deliver an even more informative and inviting Visitor Center experience.” Ziedelis went on to express excitement about the changes, which embody the spirit of Frederick County and aim to create a captivating introduction for visitors.
Temporary Visitor Center Access
During the renovation period, a limited-service information space will be available at The Delaplaine Arts Center, situated at 40 S. Carroll Street. From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, guests will have access to essential resources, including maps, brochures, and parking validation for those traveling from out of the county. To ensure guests can still obtain Downtown Frederick Gift Cards, orders can be placed over the phone by calling 301-600-4046, with potential in-person pickups scheduled on an individual basis.
Exciting Grand Reopening
After the closure, the Frederick Visitor Center is set to reopen its doors on March 8, 2025. The unveiling of the updated exhibits and enhanced visitor experience will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce on March 12 at 3 PM, welcoming everyone to join in the celebration.
This renovation effort follows a series of improvements initiated in 2023, including the introduction of a new theater and an orientation film, making the visitor center a more engaging hub for both tourists and residents alike.
With the planned updates, visitors will find an even more comprehensive portrayal of Frederick County's rich history, enabling them to dive deep into the stories and experiences that make this region unique. As excitement builds around the reopening, the community looks forward to experiencing the fresh take on local heritage and culture within the historic walls of the Frederick Visitor Center.
