New Guidelines for Smart Manufacturing: Practical Case Studies Released by JMAC

Introduction

The Japan Management Association Consulting (JMAC), located in Minato, Tokyo, has unveiled a new collection of case studies aimed at enhancing smart manufacturing practices. This initiative is part of the 5G Dynamic Capability Development Project, sponsored by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The project focuses on leveraging 5G technology to strengthen the dynamic capabilities of the manufacturing sector.

Case Studies Overview

Contained within the newly released case study collection are twelve significant research achievements, categorized into three main challenges:

1. Automation of Processes Including Ancillary Tasks
2. Remote Control and Resource Sharing of Manufacturing Sites
3. Knowledge Sharing to Address Changes in Working Conditions

While some industries have already begun to adopt similar automation systems, these case studies represent challenges taken on by selected companies in the sector to address previously insurmountable issues.

Linking to Smart Manufacturing Guidelines (SMDG)

The case studies have been meticulously organized following the framework of the Smart Manufacturing Development Guidelines (SMDG). They provide clear narratives highlighting problem-solving approaches, enabling manufacturers to identify key transformation issues using the SMDG and offering insights from relevant R&D efforts.

These practical examples are designed to stimulate innovative thinking among manufacturers looking to implement smart technologies, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of Japan’s manufacturing transformation capabilities and competitiveness.

Publication and Resources

The collection, titled "Twelve Research and Development Projects for Optimizing Manufacturing Operations," was published on the NEDO website on June 12. A corresponding explanatory video is also available for viewing.
