RWE Expands Renewable Energy Assets
RWE Clean Energy, recognized as the third largest renewable energy company in the United States, has made significant strides in enhancing its operational capacity with the recent commissioning of six renewable energy projects. These projects contribute nearly one gigawatt (999 megawatts) of additional capacity, reflecting RWE's commitment to meeting the growing energy demands across the nation.
The newly launched projects include a diverse mix of renewable energy sources, comprising one brand new wind farm, a repowered wind farm, three solar projects, and a standalone battery energy storage system. Spanning across four states, this expansion underscores RWE's determination to bolster energy security and promote grid reliability in the U.S. Notably, among these initiatives is RWE's inaugural operational project in Arkansas, marking a significant addition to its growing asset portfolio.
With the completion of these projects, RWE has not only reinforced the infrastructure for U.S. energy independence but also created more than 1,400 jobs throughout the construction of these facilities. These developments are projected to generate over $130 million in local tax revenue over the operational lifetimes of the projects, creating a substantial economic impact at the local level.
Project Highlights
Among the highlights of these six projects:

Westside Canal Complex Expansion: This includes a 119 MW (476 MWh) battery energy storage project located in Imperial County, California. As the second phase of the Westside Canal Complex, which previously provided 160 construction jobs, this expansion increases the facility's total capacity to 250 MW (1,000 MWh). The project is expected to support California's energy resilience, contributing an estimated $20 million in property tax revenue over its 20-year lifespan.

Goliad Solar Project (Texas): A 300 MW solar project named Peregrine Solar in Goliad, Texas, was efficiently commissioned in just 15 days, bringing significant local economic benefits and fostering local employment by providing 250 jobs during construction. Additionally, the project will generate approximately $180,000 annually for supporting local jurisdictions throughout its lifetime.

Peyton Creek II Wind Project (Texas): This 243 MW wind project in Bay City adds to the Peyton Creek Complex, totaling a capacity of 394 MW. The construction phase created around 250 jobs, while operations are now sustaining 20 full-time local jobs and promising an estimated $60 million in tax contributions to Matagorda County.

Champion Wind Project (Texas): The repowered Champion Wind, a 127 MW facility originally commissioned in 2008, extends its operational lifetime by an additional 20 years. It will provide over $31 million in tax revenue, along with more than 200 jobs during its construction phase.

Quartz Solar Project (Arkansas): A joining of RWE’s commitment to diversification, Quartz Solar is a 135 MW facility in Cross County, offering new job opportunities and economic prospects at a time of rising energy needs stemming from growing data centers and manufacturing. It supported about 300 construction jobs and will deliver $12.5 million in property tax revenue throughout its operational phase.

Wythe County Solar (Virginia): Now operational, this 75 MW solar project in Virginia contributes to the local energy supply. Over 300 workers were employed during its peak construction phase, and the project is projected to add around $7 million in property tax revenue, acting in alignment with the state's energy strategy.
