Celebrating a Milestone in Automation
One year after the deployment of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) at Chery's Dalian factory, ForwardX Robotics proudly acknowledges the significant impact these machines have made in streamlining internal logistics. The state-of-the-art AMR system has demonstrated remarkable performance in facilitating logistics processes in the large-scale production environment of automotive manufacturing.
Efficient Operations Across the Factory Floor
Since their introduction, 435 AMRs have been integrated throughout the facility, with more than 270 robots currently operational in the welding and final assembly workshops. These robots play a pivotal role, helping to maintain an impressive production rate of 800 to 1000 vehicles per day, thereby ensuring the continuous flow of materials essential for the assembly line's stability.
The implementation of these robots has transformed the internal logistics landscape, especially in two critical manufacturing areas. In the welding shop, 121 AMRs manage the automated delivery of components used in body assembly, while in the final assembly area, 150 robots facilitate the transportation and distribution of parts across various production stations. In fact, the AMR system now automates the delivery of 32 different components in the welding section, covering over 50% of the material needs, and manages the supply of 95 parts in the final assembly area—meeting nearly 80% of the materials required for assembly operations.
Cutting-Edge Technology in Action
The operational backbone of these robots is ForwardX's fourth-generation AMR platform, which integrates vision-based navigation and a smart automated fleet coordination system. This technology enables the robots to navigate the factory's complex environment while dynamically coordinating transportation tasks across multiple workshops.
Nicolas Chee, the founder and CEO of ForwardX Robotics, emphasizes the importance of sustained operational reliability in automotive manufacturing. “Over the past year, this deployment has showcased how autonomous mobile robots can support a stable material flow in complex manufacturing settings,” Chee states.
The integration of this advanced automation system has significantly reduced the reliance on manual material handling within the facility. It has improved internal logistics efficiency and bolstered lean manufacturing methodologies. As the system continues to expand and hone its operations throughout the year, it is anticipated that the automation platform will further enhance supply chain processes and optimize workforce allocation for higher value-added tasks.
