Explore the Intricate Connection Between Diabetes and Kidney Health at Fukuoka's Immersive Event

Understanding Diabetes and Its Complications: An Immersive Journey

Bayer Pharmaceuticals is set to host a fascinating immersive experience titled "JinZorium: Journey into the World of Kidneys" on September 6 and 7 at the Solaria Plaza in Fukuoka City. This event aims to educate the public about diabetes and its complications, focusing particularly on its impact on kidney health.

The centerpiece of this two-day event will be a 6-meter diameter immersive dome that transports participants into a vivid representation of human kidneys and their functions. Attendees will be given a unique opportunity to feel as if they are traveling through the inner workings of their bodies. Alongside this immersive display, Bayer will hold an engaging stamp rally quiz that will allow guests to learn fun facts about diabetes and its related complications, particularly diabetic nephropathy. Those who complete the stamp rally will be rewarded with mineral water sourced from Fukuoka.

On September 7, a public lecture titled "Protecting Your Kidneys: The Importance of Blood Sugar and Urine Testing" will take place, featuring Dr. Ryuichi Sakamoto, a specialist in diabetes from Kyushu University Hospital. He will be discussing the intricacies of diabetes and its complications. In a special guest appearance, renowned musician, actor, and director Takanori Jinnai will also participate in a talk session, diving deeper into prevention strategies and lifestyle practices to maintain kidney health.

The Hidden Dangers of Diabetic Kidney Disease

Diabetic kidney disease is often asymptomatic, meaning many patients are unaware of its progression until serious complications arise. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, around 20 million individuals in Japan are either diagnosed with diabetes or are pre-diabetic, making it a significant health concern. Alarmingly, nearly 40% of type 2 diabetes patients develop chronic kidney disease (CKD). In Fukuoka, diabetic kidney diseases account for over 50% of the new dialysis patients, underscoring the urgent need for early detection and treatment.

High blood sugar can lead to kidney damage, but most patients show few to no symptoms until the condition reaches an advanced stage. This emphasizes the importance of regular check-ups, as kidney function may deteriorate silently over a period of 10-20 years after diabetes onset. Early detection and management are crucial in slowing the progression of kidney disease and improving the quality of life.

Bayer aims for this event to serve as a valuable opportunity for attendees to gain understanding about diabetes and its complications. It is a call to action for individuals to educate themselves on the risks of diabetes and the importance of early detection and prevention methods.
