Yili Launches Global Innovation Vanguard Initiative in Cambridge

Yili Group, one of Asia's leading dairy companies, recently inaugurated its Global Innovation Vanguard Initiative in the historic city of Cambridge, UK. This initiative, underscored by the theme "Gathering Global Wisdom, Pioneering a Healthier Future," aims to redefine the dairy sector through a framework dedicated to open access research and development. The event marked not only the launch of this ambitious program but also the start of a series of collaborations aimed at enhancing the entire dairy value chain.

During the launch, Yili signed pivotal agreements with noted entities such as Springer Nature and the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) at the University of Cambridge. These partnerships are poised to facilitate groundbreaking research, focusing on improving the quality and sustainability of dairy products, while simultaneously promoting healthier eating habits globally.

Liu Chunxi, Yili's Senior Executive President, emphasized the company's dedication to advancing the dairy industry by identifying new opportunities and challenges. He highlighted Yili's commitment to fostering synergies across the value chain, centering consumer health as a priority. Liu stated, “By driving initiatives that enhance the entire ecosystem, we aim to elevate the global dairy sector to unprecedented heights.”

The launch showcased 13 pioneering projects, encapsulating a wide range of dairy sector facets, from cattle breeding and smart farming to precision nutrition and sustainable packaging solutions. He Jian, the head of the China National Technology Innovation Center for Dairy (NTICD) and General Manager of Yili’s Global Innovation Center, invited research institutions and industry partners worldwide to tackle these pressing challenges collaboratively.

To further amplify this collaborative spirit, Yili established an agreement with the IfM to explore new industrial research and development models. Andy Neely, a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Professor at the University of Cambridge, commented on the significance of Yili's collaboration, asserting, “It’s fantastic that Yili collaborates with Cambridge, especially through the Open Innovation Forum, as they collectively explore new ideas and innovation pathways across various fields.”

In another significant move, Yili also signed an agreement with Springer Nature to initiate the preparation of the 2026 Global Breast Milk Research white paper. Stephen Pincock, Executive Vice President at Springer Nature, underscored the report's importance in revealing global trends and the exceptional research achievements from premier institutions. His remarks framed Yili's support for this project as a strong commitment towards the health of future generations.

In conjunction with these academic milestones, the Yili brand Jinlingguan announced an upgrade to its brand strategy titled “Full-Spectrum Nutrition Ultimate Freshness.” Dr. Ignatius Szeto, Vice President of Yili Group, explained that Jinlingguan is proactively advancing a Six-in-One research strategy focusing on critical health areas, including absorption, protection, brain nutrition, gut health, bone health, and hypoallergenicity.

Yili's initiatives are bolstered by a global innovation ecosystem known as “15+1,” which unites 15 regional centers with leading academic institutions worldwide. Paul Moughan, a distinguished Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and Professor at Massey University, lauded Yili as a scientific pioneer in the industry, highlighting the company's commitment to transparency, integrity, and genuine collaboration.
