Kansai Electric and BIPROGY Launch Corporate PPA Matching Demonstration for Carbon-Free Energy

Kansai Electric and BIPROGY Collaborate for Energy Matching Demonstration

Kansai Electric Power Company and BIPROGY Inc. have announced the initiation of a groundbreaking project that focuses on demonstrating the "Hourly Matching System." This system aims to validate the real-time synchronization of renewable energy electricity supply and consumption on an hourly basis.

The core of this demonstration utilizes data from renewable energy facilitiessupported by Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (Corporate PPA)which provide electric power generation values. By matching these generation values with consumption data at specific sites on an hourly basis, the project demonstrates the feasibility of real-time energy use. Notably, this data is managed on a blockchain, ensuring that tampering is nearly impossible and that the generated renewable energy is consumed in real-time.

In this endeavor, Kansai Electric is responsible for the overall planning and evaluation of the demonstration system, while BIPROGY will assist in developing the system and addressing technical challenges that arise during the process.

The interest in achieving what is known as "24/7 Carbon-Free Energy" has been on the rise in recent years. This initiative, led by the United Nations, encourages organizations to aim for 100% carbon-free energy use all year round. The principles of Corporate PPA, which require simultaneous matching of renewable energy consumption and generation, are becoming increasingly critical as discussions around revisions to GHG Protocol standards continue.

As businesses strive to achieve more significant reductions in their carbon footprints, having a framework that guarantees the match between renewable energy supply and consumption is more crucial than ever. This is particularly pertinent for corporate buyers who are increasingly opting for renewable energy options.

Kansai Electric and BIPROGY aim not only to prove the practicality of the Hourly Matching System but also to contribute to the broader adoption of renewable energy sources. By participating in this project, they hope to pave the way for more organizations to commit to their energy consumption strategies that align with sustainability goals.

Key Objectives of the Demonstration

1. Duration: The project will run from December 2025 to March 2026.
2. Purpose: To gain insights into the effectiveness of hourly matching between carbon-free energy generation and consumption.
3. Overview: The team will establish a technology system for managing hourly generation and consumption data, with recorded information verified on blockchain to ensure authenticity. Furthermore, they plan to visualize CO₂ emission coefficients as part of the demonstration.

Through this collaboration, Kansai Electric and BIPROGY are poised to make notable advances in the field of renewable energy management, potentially influencing various sectors that depend on reliable and accountable energy sources. This project stands as a significant step towards realizing the goal of a carbon-neutral society, addressing both environmental concerns and business needs for transparency and reliability in energy utilization.
