Ise Katagami Tokyo Exhibition 2026
From June 12 to June 14, 2026, the Ise Katagami Cooperative will host the highly anticipated
Ise Katagami Tokyo Exhibition 2026 at
Mie Terrace, located in the heart of Tokyo's Chuo Ward. This free-entry event aims to showcase the timeless beauty of
Ise Katagami, a traditional craft that originated in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, over a thousand years ago.
Why Tokyo?
Tokyo is known for its vibrant culture and artistic sensibility, making it the perfect location for this exhibition. The purpose of showcasing Ise Katagami here is to introduce its intricate patterns and exceptional techniques to a wider audience while integrating them into modern lifestyles as art pieces. This exhibition promises to offer an immersive experience that connects history with contemporary living.
Special Exhibits and New Product Launches
One of the highlights of the exhibition will be a special display of Ise Katagami creations featured in the drama series
Akinai Yodō Kin to Gin. Attendees will be able to appreciate a variety of stunning patterns, including
Suza Komon,
Eto Komon,
Kanai Anzen, and designs representing fireworks. These delicate and intricate patterns reflect the craftsmanship of traditional artisans.
In addition to the displays, the exhibition will unveil new products derived from these patterns. Attendees can expect practical items such as accessories, bookmarks, and tenugui (Japanese hand towels), making it easier to incorporate Ise Katagami into daily life.
Experience the Craftsmanship Live
Throughout the exhibition, visitors will witness live demonstrations conducted by skilled artisans and apprentices. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to see how these exquisite patterns are created, allowing them to appreciate the high level of craftsmanship and aesthetic sense developed over centuries.
Artistic Proposals for Modern Spaces
The exhibition will also feature framed artworks, stylish lighting, and beautifully crafted folding fans, promoting the concept that traditional techniques can harmonize with contemporary aesthetics. Each piece stands as a testament to the enduring allure of Ise Katagami.
