Innovating Recycling: The Fujipco and Sunplaza Collaboration
Fujipco, led by Chairman Mamoru Sato, and Sunplaza, headed by President Chikara Yamaguchi, have joined forces to revolutionize recycling practices in the Kansai region. This partnership aims to establish a robust eco-conscious shopping environment across 35 stores by August 2026, focusing on transforming used food trays and PET bottles into new, eco-friendly containers. This initiative, dubbed the 'Store to Store' horizontal recycling, is a significant step towards creating a sustainable business model that actively participates in the circular economy.
The 'Store to Store' Recycling Process
The 'Store to Store' initiative emphasizes collecting used food trays and PET bottles from customers via designated recycling boxes located in-store. All collected materials will be reused by Fujipco to create eco-friendly products, which will then be sold again by Sunplaza, effectively closing the recycling loop. This partnership not only promotes sustainability but also positions both companies as local eco-leaders who encourage community involvement in recycling efforts.
To provide a clearer picture, during the fiscal year ending February 2026, Sunplaza successfully collected 53 tons of used food trays and 109 tons of PET bottles. By incorporating these recycled materials into their offerings, they were able to prevent 245 tons of CO2 emissions. With the strengthened collaboration between Fujipco and Sunplaza, the target is set to further enhance eco-product usage to achieve a reduction of 270 tons of CO2 emissions by the fiscal year ending February 2027.
Educational Campaigns to Promote Recycling
To amplify participation in recycling, both companies are initiating public awareness campaigns. These campaigns will utilize informational posters in-store to generate interest and educate customers about the importance of recycling. They aim to increase the collection of used food trays and PET bottles, bolstering their dreams of fostering a strong eco-friendly community.
