NEIGHBORHOOD: A Unique Exhibition by witness
The YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA, located in the heart of Dazaifu, is currently hosting the personal exhibition titled
NEIGHBORHOOD from April 26 to May 15, 2025. This exhibition features the innovative works of local artist,
witness, who has captivated audiences with his distinctive style and intricate techniques.
About the Artist
witness, originally from Fukuoka, started his journey as a graphic designer. His artistic path took a significant turn when he participated in a live painting event, igniting his passion for creating art. Known for his unique method of using masking tape, he would layer colors over taped sections, only to peel away and reveal complex designs that reconstruct the canvas.
In recent years, however, witness has shifted his focus to crafting authentic painting works. He has moved away from the masking tape technique to engage deeply with his paintings, emphasizing a more genuine interaction between the artist and the canvas. In this exhibition, visitors can expect to see around 20 acrylic paintings inspired by the flora and scenery found in familiar local pathways and parks.
Themes and Concepts
The essence of witness's artwork lies in the exploration of consciousness and the discrepancies of memory. His paintings represent not just a single interpretation of the landscapes we perceive, but rather a multitude of perspectives that coexist simultaneously. Through his art, witness invites us to recognize the everyday joys that often go unnoticed, prompting a deeper reflection on the beauty surrounding us.
Exclusive Interview
In conjunction with this exhibition, an exclusive interview with witness has been published, offering insights into his creative process and personal inspiration. He shares his thoughts on how urban landscapes influence his work and the significance of being attuned to nature in from the comfort of our neighborhoods.
