Kotori Kawashima's New Visual Project Debuts in Shibuya
In a captivating move for her fans and art enthusiasts,
Kotori Kawashima, a multi-talented model and artist from Miyagi Prefecture, unveiled her latest self-produced video titled
'Sleeping Woman in Snowfield' on a street vison in Shibuya, Tokyo. Produced by her company
COTOLX, this initiative showcases intense visuals and profound narratives that resonate with her experiences and background.
This new video installation serves as a sequel to her previous work, the
Transparent Resume project, which received extensive media coverage since its teaser release in December 2025. The original video stirred interest with its thought-provoking messages and engaging content, setting a high precedent for this follow-up, which deepens the conversation by using Kawashima's body as a medium to visualize her 'blank spaces' in life.
Transition from Teaser to Full Narrative
The imagery in the new work captures Kawashima in the serene yet stark winter landscapes of the
Zao area of Miyagi Prefecture. It represents a departure from the initial teaser, evolving into a full narrative that explores the blank periods of life that many encounter in their professional journeys. Kawashima's artistic expression challenges societal norms and prevails through adversity, making her story universal and relatable.
During the production, Kawashima intentionally chose the keyword
'pure white' to symbolize beginnings rather than endings. She shares that her own life, much like many others, has been punctuated with challenging times—periods marked by health struggles and career stagnation. These experiences are not to be viewed as blemishes but rather as essential pauses that allow for growth and renewal.
Kawashima’s poignant portrayal—lying in the snow and gazing at the sky—embodies a ritual of reconciliation with her past self, transforming even her most unremarkable times into a radiant part of her life’s tapestry. The notion of rising again from the
'pure white' signifies hope and the possibility of revival, especially as the anniversary of the 15th year of the disaster in Miyagi approaches, making this visual project deeply reflective.
Upcoming Radio Show: 'Kotori Kawashima's Transparent Resume'
Adding another layer to her artistic endeavor is the soon-to-launch radio program aimed at expanding on the themes presented in her visual project. Set to premiere on
March 3, 2026, every first Tuesday of the month on
Shibuya Cross FM, the show titled
'Kotori Kawashima’s Transparent Resume - Stories of Light and Shadow Not Found in Resumes' will delve into the untold struggles and gaps faced by various professionals across different fields.
As an artist who balances her roles as a performer and producer, Kawashima is set to guide discussions around life's unseen spaces, offering her listeners an intimate look into the challenges that exist beyond surface-level resumes. Through this human documentary-style talk show, Kawashima aims to inspire her audience to reflect on their own 'transparent resumes' as they navigate life's complexities.
With this multi-faceted approach that includes both visual and auditory explorations, Kawashima's work not only showcases her talent but also serves as a vital commentary on personal growth and resilience in the face of life's inevitable challenges.
