Duke Rupert Appointed President of AHN Beaver and AHN Sewickley Hospitals

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has recently announced the appointment of Duke Rupert, who holds an MBA, as the president of AHN Beaver and AHN Sewickley hospitals. This transition will take place on August 17, 2026. Rupert succeeds Norm Mitry, the long-serving president and CEO of Heritage Valley Health System, who is set to retire at the end of the year after serving in the role for over three decades.

In his move to the top, Duke Rupert aims to lead the operations and strategic growth initiatives for the health network's facilities that were previously under the Heritage Valley Health System banner. AHN also appointed Keith Lorenz as the chief operating officer and Joshua Miller as chief financial officer of the hospitals, indicating a significant reorganization aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the region.

Mitry's departure marks the end of an era in which Heritage Valley grew to become Beaver County's sole provider for comprehensive health services. Under his leadership, the network successfully introduced numerous clinical programs that solidified its mission to deliver community-focused and patient-centered care. His efforts played a crucial role in the integration of Heritage Valley into AHN, ensuring a seamless transition and bolstered healthcare delivery for the surrounding community.

Mark Sevco, President of AHN, has lauded Mitry's exceptional contributions to healthcare in Beaver County and western Allegheny County. He reflected on the deep positive impact that Mitry's leadership has had on countless patients, families, and caregivers over much of his three-decade involvement.

Duke Rupert brings to his new role a wealth of experience in healthcare management. Prior to this appointment, he served as the chief operating officer at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and has held various senior leadership roles within AHN for more than two decades. His extensive background includes crucial roles such as senior vice president of operations and COO of AHN Allegheny General Hospital, as well as president and CEO of both AHN Forbes Hospital and AHN West Penn Hospital.

In his new position, Rupert will oversee the operations of AHN Beaver and AHN Sewickley hospitals, focusing on strategic growth, enhancing clinical performance, and fostering community partnerships across the entire Heritage Valley area. His objective is to solidify AHN Beaver and AHN Sewickley as key institutions within the 'Living Health' model initiated by AHN, improving the accessibility, personalization, effectiveness, and affordability of healthcare services in the region.

Rupert's professional journey began as a physical therapist. He initially joined AHN Allegheny General Hospital in 1997, where he took on the role of director for the Human Motion Center rehabilitation program. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Daemen College and later achieved his Master of Business Administration degree from Point Park University, equipping him with both clinical and administrative insights essential for his leadership role.

Joining Rupert in the leadership transition, Keith Lorenz was previously vice president of operations at UPMC Passavant, and with him, he brings a track record of operational excellence. Joshua Miller, who has over 13 years of experience in healthcare finance, is poised to contribute significantly to the effective financial management of the hospitals.

With this newly formed talented leadership team, AHN is well-prepared to achieve its strategies and enhance healthcare delivery in Beaver and Sewickley.
