EBSCO Clinical Decisions Welcomes Paul Tuten
EBSCO Clinical Decisions has announced the appointment of Paul Tuten as its Executive Vice President, a strategic move intended to enhance the organization's influence in healthcare. Tuten, who has considerable experience in health IT and clinical decision support systems, is set to oversee various operations, focusing on strategic initiatives, content enhancement, product development, and growth strategies.
Tuten's Vision for Clinical Decision Support
In his new role, Tuten aims to refine the organization's point-of-care strategies. He is particularly interested in expanding partnerships that will integrate DynaMed's expert-vetted content directly into the practical workflows and platforms that healthcare professionals utilize daily. His vision is to transform the traditionally paper-based decision support tools into a more interactive, automated experience akin to GPS navigation, making clinical decision-making seamless and immediate.
Tuten commented, "For too long, clinical decision support has worked like a paper map. Useful, but only if you pull over to review it and already know where you are. Clinicians need something closer to GPS, seamlessly integrated into the car and proactively guiding them in real time."
Background and Expertise
Before joining EBSCO, Tuten held the position of Chief Product and Technology Officer at Taylor & Francis, where he successfully led initiatives in digital transformation and improved data governance and platform-centric customer experiences. His history also includes leadership roles at various health IT organizations focusing on crucial areas like clinical data exchange and revenue cycle management. Tuten holds a PhD in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University.
His tenure at EBSCO Information Services since 2025 marks a pivotal point where he worked as Executive Vice President and Chief Platform Officer. Here, he was instrumental in propelling scalable growth within EBSCO's advanced knowledge services, setting a strong foundation for his elevated role.
EBSCO's Commitment to Evidence-Based Solutions
Dr. Roy Ziegelstein, EBSCO's Editor-in-Chief and Chief Medical Officer of DynaMed, praised Tuten's leadership by noting, "Paul's strong and even-handed leadership is an incredible asset as we work to deliver intelligent, evidence-based tools that elevate care delivery. His deep technical expertise and track record in academic publishing will help us take the next step in building and delivering trustworthy, evidence-based solutions for clinicians."
Tuten's arrival comes at a critical time when the demand for precise and readily accessible clinical information is at an all-time high. With numerous AI tools emerging, the importance of having human experts curate and verify the evidence becomes crucial. Tuten aims to address these challenges directly, ensuring that trusted clinical knowledge is readily available wherever care is delivered.
Moreover, his involvement with the federal government as a Senior Advisor to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) adds to his credentials, bolstering his understanding of health information exchange and interoperability. His work supporting the HITECH Act’s Meaningful Use program provided him with a broad perspective, which is expected to benefit EBSCO significantly.
As Tuten settles into his new position, the healthcare world remains optimistic about the advancements EBSCO Clinical Decisions will make under his leadership, particularly regarding the integration of intelligent, evidence-based tools and responses that enhance real-time care delivery.
