LG Energy Solution Partners with PGE for Major ESS Supply Agreement in Europe
LG Energy Solution Partners with PGE
In a significant move towards enhancing energy resilience in Europe, LG Energy Solution has signed a noteworthy agreement with PGE, the largest energy company in Poland. This partnership involves supplying 981MWh of grid-scale energy storage systems (ESS) from 2026 to 2027. This initiative reflects a concerted effort to bolster Poland's clean energy landscape.
Details of the Agreement
The collaboration will lead to the establishment of a sophisticated battery energy storage facility in Żarnowiec, Poland. This facility is expected to commence its commercial operations in 2027, marking a notable advancement in Poland’s energy transition. The agreement includes a comprehensive turnkey solution, which encompasses not only the provision of the battery systems but also Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services provided by LG Energy Solution and its European partners.
The innovative batteries to be deployed are high-capacity lithium iron phosphate (LFP) long-cell batteries, which are designed to enhance energy efficiency and safety. These advanced batteries will incorporate Liquid Cooling technology, optimizing their performance and reliability—features that set them apart from conventional energy storage solutions.
Strategic Importance of the Partnership
Hyung Kim, the head of the ESS Battery Division at LG Energy Solution, highlighted the importance of this project by noting that it represents one of the largest ESS initiatives undertaken by the company in Europe. By developing products tailored specifically for the European market and utilizing local manufacturing capabilities, the partnership seeks to maximize value for customers and support Poland's energy transition goals.
On the other side, Dariusz Marzec, President of the Management Board of PGE, expressed excitement over entering this new era of energy storage. For PGE, this project not only reflects a major milestone but also reinforces their commitment to advancing a sustainable energy framework in Poland, which supplies electricity to almost six million households, businesses, and institutions across the country.
Expanding LG's Presence in Europe
This agreement positions LG Energy Solution favorably for future public tenders from European state-owned energy companies, thereby enhancing the company’s footprint in the regional grid-scale ESS market. The company’s strategy of leveraging its
